zebra
Looking good James. Shame Eduard got the bis nose wrong (not to mention the turquoise on the PE too), but your correction is looking pretty smart.
franky boy
Thanks Julian Yes shame about the nose. I think if this was a more recent tooling Eduard may moulded a Bis fuselage? As for the PE I’ve yet to see them get the correct colour on any of the sets I’ve used. Thanks James
franky boy
Hello chaps I didn't realize I hadn't done an update for so long so here goes. The resin nose is now on and the joins filled and sanded. This took a couple of rounds as expected but all is now good. I did have a slight step from fuselage to resin nose but some Mr Surfacer took care of this. 57BD167F-66C8-491D-BE78-53055EB9FE7D by James Halls, on Flickr I've also got the wings on. As can be seen in the pic below there is a gap at the wing root which I've read elsewhere can happen with this kit. 775AD5FE-9762-48A3-AFAA-B8E8DFFF757D by James Halls, on Flickr I've also read elsewhere that sanding the lower wing section right on the end on that angled line allows the upper surface of the wing to be pushed in a little and close the gap which works very well indeed. 2899D265-1F40-4AA4-AD38-C77E0C41809D by James Halls, on Flickr Sorted! I really didn't fancy sanding that joint. 12F5491A-986A-4EB2-9BF8-036EE30C503B by James Halls, on Flickr The gear bays have also been painted in light gull grey, Hataka orange line, and given an oil wash followed by a flat coat. 65544601-2FE1-4C95-9DFE-FDFF8B61C4CE by James Halls, on Flickr The Quickboost intakes and vents were also added. A71E607B-65D6-4D70-8A97-55EBA9C1A9A4 by James Halls, on Flickr The kits now in primer and almost ready for paint. I'm just having a battle with a ghost seam that wont go away along the fuselage spine but it shouldn't be to long now. I've also been doing some research on this a/c. Eduard would have you paint the undersides light blue but all of the photos show it to be a very light grey similar light gull grey as in the gear bays. The only light blue parts being the wing pylons. It's quite faded but not that dirty. 8580E4C7-1775-4A01-B399-87836D49BA98 by James Halls, on Flickr Can someone please tell me what are the rocket pods under the wings called as being admired by these two fine fellas looking for a bit of shade. These aren't supplied in the kit but Eduard Brassin do a few different ones and I quite fancy adding a pair and so want to make sure I get the right ones. LIBYA-VIOLENCE/ by James Halls, on Flickr That's all for now. Thanks for looking. James

Here’s some photos of the Mig primed and ready for paint. I used Mr Surfacer 1200 which I love and dropped a bit of Tamiya XF1 black into it to darken it as the primer is otherwise very similar to the light gull grey I’ll use on the undersides. 04650B76-91F9-4DDC-8A28-ABA076820EE6 by James Halls, on Flickr B001E82C-14B7-4ED8-9F26-436ED76CA973 by James Halls, on Flickr 24042576-FC1E-4ED1-AFF8-642702B0E5FE by James Halls, on Flickr CE970E95-7813-44CB-B2B4-ADAE536F80B5 by James Halls, on Flickr Thanks for looking. franky boy
Evening all Hope everyone's keeping. Time for an update. I've been painting! Right, first colour on was the grey on the underside. After a rummage through my greys I came up with FS36375 (Gunze) which I believe is Light Ghost Grey as the best candidate. The whole aircraft was given a pre shade first, black along the control surface hinges and Tamiya red brown along the panel lines, some rivet lines and also some squiggles. F53C9D07-BB43-403A-B3D8-75B10E7017B9 by James Halls, on Flickr And then onto the grey. 8FC01496-9B80-4F79-BA85-895545F4ABCF by James Halls, on Flickr Being Gunze this went down very nicely when thinned with SLT but the colour was a bit dark. It was one of those scenarios where it looked about right in the pot but once it was down it was just a bit dark. The real a/c really does have a very light grey underside. 8580E4C7-1775-4A01-B399-87836D49BA98 by James Halls, on Flickr So back to the paint drawer and I found a pot of FS 36622 which is I think the colour used on the undersides of a/c in the Vietnam War theatre. Anyway I put down a mottled coat of this which I was much happier with. C1491350-76DE-4ADD-B672-09116A7F5DD2 by James Halls, on Flickr Onto to the topside and I used Gunze H310 FS 30219 and H27 tan for the brown shades both of which were on the colour call outs in the kit instructions and for the green after studying photos I went for Tamiya XF26 which looks a pretty good match. The wife was away over the weekend so I had a couple late night painting sessions and got all of this done in double quick time for me. Everything was sprayed free hand as the camo job on the real a/c is a little patchy in places which suits my airbrushing skills very well although I did resort to some blue tack sausages for a couple of bits that I wasn't happy with. 6A1E0D3E-ADF7-4BAC-B59C-B1471D21AB29 by James Halls, on Flickr B714118D-9894-4CCD-93BF-B58EB7726685 by James Halls, on Flickr 512795F0-39F3-4F3D-AAC4-89B8E5A32E04 by James Halls, on Flickr Next job will be a gloss coat to seal everything in and then onto the natural metal areas around the tail. And in other news these arrived from the big H to be hung under the wings in due course. B67AAEBB-1102-4EE1-9496-2D7F6862DCA3 by James Halls, on Flickr That's all for now. Thanks for looking. Once the decals are on it will need bit of weathering to give it that faded back sun bleached look. 16 hours ago, Corsairfoxfouruncle said: Well that turned out quite nice. franky boy
Hello chaps It's been ages since my last update, apologies for that, and since we're nearly at the end of the GB I thought I'd better give an update. So here goes. The main airframe is now finished. The decals went on very well. I didn't add all of the stencils. I have a few good close up shots of this a/c and I don't think it has that many. And life's to short as there are a lot on the decal sheet. This was followed by a flat coat (Tamiya) to seal in the decals and then applied a mixture of Flory Models grime and dark dirt washes. This was then followed dome weathering and a few streaks on the undersides with oils. I'll also add dome dust pigments right at the end. 285E1CE3-6913-41D3-8439-C884161D4B2E by James Halls, on Flickr The metallic area around the tail was sprayed with Mr Hobby Super Metalics. The picture doesn't do them justice and there are two shades here. 1BBB590A-847A-46D1-8008-0C7E2F84DC76 by James Halls, on Flickr 71C5F4F7-88CC-493A-A745-EBB156F66FFE by James Halls, on Flickr 33C7D6BD-DCDE-4BCA-8DFB-ACE0E6CF7270 by James Halls, on Flickr And unmasking the cockpit. The pictures a bit blurry but I'm happy with the end result. B53DC286-DA19-4505-8804-33E839CAD9EB by James Halls, on Flickr I've also got the undercarriage finished and ready to be installed and also the centre line drop tank and rocket pods. Sorry no pics. This just leaves the bang seat, Master pitot which is ready paint and the sealing strips around the canopy glass. TBH I'm not going to get these done by the weekend deadline but I'll post some pics when it's done in the gallery maybe sometime next week. Well done to everyone who's taken part in the GB James
