No seam problems on the V1 Alistair, and the wing roots look pretty good too? An improvement on the Sunderland at least 😉

Just keep splashing paint on your pilot until he looks good, that’s what I did with my Spitfire pilot…. And remember, he can’t really be seen under a closed canopy.

I’ve not come across this technique of black then a white coat from above…?  What’s the theory of this approach, inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks Mark,

I saw it on a YouTube video from Nightshift.

The theory is that the white from above creates the highlights and you paint the colours on as a thin glaze in layers like a filter.

Thought it was easy and interesting enough to give it a go and see what happens.

As you say there won't be much to see under the canopy, so if I mess it up I won't be too bothered.

Alistair

A little late to the party as usual.

I built the Airfix version which doesn’t look quite right so I’ll be interested in seeing how this one turns out.

Welcome aboard.

  • 1 month later...

The first work on the pilot has been done.

Still more to do but it has at least been started.

As I had the ColourCoats out for the Sunderland I sprayed the bit of the Cockpit that I'd missed.

There's a lot of work to be done to the pilot and details sorted out but at least I've got my finger out and started moving forward.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

The pilot figure has a good start to the painting stage.  It is far better than I could do!!  Always remember, with the canopy closed a large portion of what we spend time detailing, painting and scrap building to make beautiful is only found in the pictures taken prior to the fuselage halves being put together and the canopy glued on.  For the rest of the world, all they get is a blurry, limited and distorted version of what we spent hours on effort perfecting.

Waiting for the next post.

Thanks so much.

One of the reasons I decided to get on with the pilot was that if I mess it up it will all be hidden behind the canopy. :D

I still have a lot to do with the pilot and a fair bit of tidying up too.

Good to see this on the go again Alistair,  pilot looks great .

Good to see you back

Chris

Thanks Chris, too kind.

I've still got a few glazy coats to do in places and then tidy it all up but it's coming along better than I expected.

Thanks Roger,

My figure painting skills are not good to be honest but most of it will be hidden anyway. .

Things are still a bit hectic but I'll try to be a tad more regular.

I'd obviously not looked in on this before because of the scale, now I've had a peek at what is going on, I'll be looking in more often. Right subject trumps wrong scale any day of the week. :)

Steve.

Welcome aboard Steve, glad to see you here.

Good to see you back at it Alistair, I’m looking forward to this one

Thanks Mark,

I'll be trying to be a tad more regular with my posts now.

I've had nearly two months of inactivity and am itching to get on with it.

Some gentle scribing was done on the V-1.

I managed to have a slight slip and so some putty applied.

That'll teach me to use tape rather than attempt a freehand.

Once that's dry and sanded back it'll be primed.

Thanks for looking,

A wee pilot update before I'm off to work.

A bit more glazing and tidying up.

Pilot is lookinggoid Alistair,  great job

Chris

Thanks Chris too kind.

It's adequate for purpose or will be hopefully once I get the paint finished.

Then it'll be a light dry brush and a wash but it'll be hidden behind clear styrene so should look OK. :D

Alistair

Not much of an update, I'm afraid.

The V-1 was now ready for priming.

If I get some time later I'll try and get some more work done on the pilot and maybe some mottling and  RLM 76 on it.

Some work done on the pilot.

Some more colour added to the face and hands, and a couple of different coloured washes applied.

I need to fix the tip of his nose and put some Krystal Kear in the Goggle Lenses but apart from that I think I've done the best I can and under the canopy he should look reasonable.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair
