This has been a real mojo restorer. I loved every minute of this kit

Makes a huge difference doesn't it Paul.

It shows how much you have been enjoying this build by how good a job you have done on it. The attention to detail and standard of your work is second to none mate and it is resulting in a fantastic model of a fantastic aircraft, and I know that it (and your ongoing 1/48 build) have had me looking around for more Corsairs to add to the stash.

Nothing wrong with adding more of Vought’s finest. 👍🏻

Thanks fellas.

Taking a few images from @Dana Bell‘s excellent reference book for inspiration…

…I’ve laid down some ak extreme metallic aluminium in areas I intend to chip away.

51902057173_618ef9050d_b.jpg

these got covered with some cheap hairspray afterwards, whereupon next I’ll apply some salmon and yellow zc, then hairspray, then chip that away too before ‘real’ paint coats.

i spent some energy sanding and refining this HUGE fella to hide the plastic joins,

he also got the hairspray treatment over the metallic base prior to yellow (and upcoming black coats…)

  • Dansk changed the title to ‘Daphne C’ 1/32 “Birdcage” Corsair - building up paint layers

I’ve been building up layers of paint and hairspray, chipping some and then building up more.

salmon and yellow zc primer, hairspray, and tones of blue and (underside) white have been utilized.

the top cots of paint while be chipped next to reveal the different layers when ready.

Same here, beautiful weathering job.

My efforts usually result in either too little, or an aircraft that has been rescued  from the fire dump!

John

thanks john, its still wip but hopefully i dont screw it up anywhere along the line

That really is excellent work Paul.

The way you have built up the layers of paint and primer is very effective and is going to look even better when you start to do some chipping and weathering.

Absolutely superb work  mate.👍

🇺🇦

thank you mate

i think oils should be rather fun to play with on the patchy surface when i get there

top fun this 🤗

Honestly mate this really is a work of art.

Your skill with the airbrush is very impressive and you really are nailing the whole exposed to the South Pacific elements look, just brilliant.👍

🇺🇦

Thanks Craig mate. I started to get some of the pink and yellow zc coming through now on the leading edge etc…

Very impressive work. I’m building the same kit, just a little way behind where you are now. By the looks of it, are you using AK’s blue grey? Happy with the tone? I’m planning to use this paint, and wondered what you thought. Looks good in the photos.

it is AK blue grey, but it is so thinnly applied (maybe 80% MLT thinners) that the different colours and tones underneath really show through and affect it so it's not a true representation of the colour.

but if you are to use it as is without transparency it looks like a good colour match.

  • Dansk changed the title to ‘Daphne C’ 1/32 “Birdcage” Corsair - masking and painting insignia / walkways

been masking and painting the walkways and some ‘insignae’ (is that a word?) recently…

did some more work chipping the flaps too…

i like all the layers in these and their assymetry…

painting…

did my best to match the blue.

though it was best to lay this down first despite white being tricky to overlay.

it prevents a halo of white, if white went down first - ask me how i know.
