PK110: Hawker Siddeley 125-600

Recommended Posts

Some more progress now I have a couple of others off the bench.

The CC.2 (refurb) has had the windscreen pillars refitted.

Both primed with any colour you want as long as it is red 🙂

51886478784_2408edc550_b.jpg

The CC.3 was then primed white as it will be predominantly white and there are seams to fill not evident under the red primer.

Those seams were filled with PPP, we'll see how I went when I sand it back.

Nice progress Ray. I promise myself to get one of these again one day and this time not sell it and build it up for myself. I'm still kicking myself and each time I see these photos I kick myself even more!

Cheers.. Dave

Cheers Dave.

I decided to add some missing detail to both kits in the form of flap hinge fairings and the antenna fit. I initially made some mods to my CC2 which I had to remove as XX507 was different from other CC2s I had reference pictures for.

The CC3 as it is before repriming. I also had to scratch build a new main gear door as one of them went missing

Not only is it like watching these Builds in Stereo but also watching the Build Thread here and on ACAM it's Quadraphonic!

Great work Ray.  This Retirement lark is not too bad is it?

Thanks Chaps, I am lucky to get time at the bench with all the running around I am doing now Rob (as well as signing up with the local Aviation museum as a volunteer).

Anyway a little progress, some paint has gone on to both, though it resulted in some more seam work required on the CC2

A lot of masking required on the CC3

And removed

There is still some more colours to do as well as touch-ups before decals

Both kits are really looking nice Ray. Glad you've been able to get a lot more bench time in and the museum volunteer work is awesome mate, you should really enjoy that.

Cheers.. Dave

These have been fighting me with paint issues and the re-glazing of the CC2, hope to have then finished shortly.

Take your time Ray, we've still got a few month left. Slow and steady will sort things out.

Cheers.. Dave

Cheers Dave, I just want to get these over the line so I can attack some other GB subjects waiting in the wings

I had paintwork issues ( as mentioned) with the CC3 which have been mostly rectified. I have added the wheels, gear doors, and entry door. I also scratch-built the door handrail. I'm not happy with the windscreen and masking but will live with it.

On the CC2 I used Testors clear cement to fill the windows which created issues with the two centre windscreen panels as I was using the glue at its size opening limits. The result was a lot of 'spillage' and subsequent scraping off of the dried excess. Here most of the openings are filled and the glue set and showing the damaged paintwork that has since been touched up.

So now the decals are being painful. MA supplies the cheat lines in continuous lengths but they run through the engine stub wing which means they have to be measured and cut into pieces to make them fit. Add that the fact my fat fingers has damage one of the engine decals makes me not very happy. So as a result decaling is going at a snails pace.

Having had a another look at the decaling, I shall carry on. The MA decals we also not very opaque on the wings, I might lay a second set over the roundels and union flag, fortunately 2 sets were included

The result of my thumb upsetting the drying decal on the nacelle

It does not loo too bad from a distance

The CC2 is ready for decals, the from end looks a little shabby, hopefully a flat coat will hide it a bit

Shame about the decal misfortune Ray but its all apart of this hobby which can be very frustrating at times. Those nice crisp paint schemes always seem harder to replicate than they look, as its not as if you can hide any errors with some camo and weathering bits here and there. Either way, 10 points for perseverance and execution mate.

Cheers.. Dave

Time to bite the bullet and get these finished.

I removed the clear glue from the window openings on the CC.2

52082004529_f0b0caf765_b.jpg

and have decided to fill the cockpit wind screen with Milliput and paint the panels, the cabin windows will be filled with clear cement ( for the third time)

52082004519_b79da1f2a8_b.jpg

Decalling has restarted on the CC.3, it looks like a dogs breaky at the moment but I hope to make it look a little more respectable

Calling the CC3 done, not happy with a lot of aspects of the build, the decals let me down and I have done a vey average job rectifying the issues. Just happy to get this one off the bench to work on something else.

The CC2 may get across the line as well.

She looks great to me Ray!

Reading through this WIP I had some strong Déjà vu regarding my own build.  But we’re always our own harshest critics.  Hard not to be when the old Mk 1’s have been staring at the same thing for hours and hours.

The end result really is worth it though.  Any issues seem minor when looking at the whole.  (I need to remind myself of that!).

Look forward to seeing the CC2

Thanks, was just looking at your 747 and you seems to have similar issues, we are are our own worst critics it seems.

Looks awesome Ray . Great colour scheme really pops .

Martin H

Thanks Martins, yes I agree on the scheme, but a bit rough around the edges I'm afraid.

So I was chatting to a mate in Canberra tonight about the CC2 and dreading the decaling process because of those damn cheat lines. And then it hit me, why use them? why use the decal sheet at all?

Now it has become a What If scheme with simplified decaling. A dive into the spare decals and a bit of addition to the parts count resulted in this

Some masking and painting to finish that stage

52120366332_0625d112a7_b.jpg

Masking off and some additional antennas fitted

52121899185_e846654a0d_b.jpg

A touch of paint on those bits ( which needs some tidying here)

52121644954_e8728e9e6a_b.jpg

And the decals, inspiration for the markings came from a PC-12 I did a couple of years ago in a similar grey scheme which is currently operational with the Finnish Air Force

52121899120_5705246f50_b.jpg

52121399051_367393eddb_b.jpg

Once the decal sealing coat finishes drying I will clear glue the cabin windows
