I had never sprayed anything before when I tried cokourcoats but they still went on beautifully, very user friendly and forgiving in my opinion,

Thanks for the info on the paint, I've got plenty of time to ponder about it.

As for building a 700 scale ship first, that doesn't really appeal to me, I've had a fair bit of pe experience with F1 cars so hopefully should be OK, plus that scale would be way too small for my aging  eyes and sausage fingers 😀

Like I say it's an itch I need to Scratch and I probably won't make another, but who knows

Plenty of videos and advice available when I need it and I'm in no rush

Cheers

I would agree everything that has been said about Colourcoats.  I'm a big fan of acrylic (esp Vallejo), purely from the ease of cleaning the airbrush, but I have been using Colourcoats of my ship models now for a couple of years and am seriously impressed with them.  I do have two criticisms and the first of these is that despite fully resealing the tins after each use, my experience is that they dry out very quickly.  I have Humbrol enamels that are still usable after over 40 years yet two tins of light weatherworks grey dried out in the space of one 1/350 scale frigate build.  But no-ne else has ever reported that so either it is purely the way that I am using them or 1 was simply unlucky.  The second criticism is the cost of postage but that is beyond Jamie's control.

I would also agree with not going down the 1/700 route first.  I can cope with 1/600 (just) but 1/700 in my opinion is just too small and if anything is harder because the PE is so much smaller than 1/350.  That said, the temptation to scratch build even more detail in 1/350 is very tempting...

I splashed out (no pun intended) on a 1/200 subject again...I used to think this was a scale too far but the mind-blowing detail available in this scale changed my mind.

1/200 Arleigh Burke class DDG. With the astonishing HS Models detail up set.

USS Curtis Wilbur 1/200

This could be the single most impressive model kit/accessory I've ever seen.

USS Curtis Wilbur 1/200

Just breathtaking. This just moved up to 'next build' as soon as I'm finished with the New York LPD.

I got myself a Tiger Model 1:35 CB90/Combat Boat 90 in Swedish garb, as I've always liked it, partly because of its angular shape, and partly because you can paint it in splinter camo

I think it may have been your build that reminded me I'd sent back my other (Malaysian?) one a few years ago, and needed to look out for the Swedish one.

I've hadn't opened it until you asked, but the box is 52.5cm long, and the main hull part is 43cm (ish) long.  I measured it in the box through a bag, balanced on the edge of my desk, as I'm half way through a review ;)

I'll look out the review when you publish 🙂

The review was a boat, but not the CB90.  It's the Shannon Class Lifeboat, and it's just gone live now:

The CB90 was first released in 2018, so it's not review-worthy at this stage of the game, and it was a private purchase :)

Thanks for that, you're going to cost me a few quid, got the Curtis Wilbur but didn't know the HS models set existed!  Where did you get it from as a quick Google isn't giving me much other than it being a future release...

That looks immense, sometimes more really is more 😉. Most my stash is 1/350, although I've built a 1/200 HMS Nelson, I don't really have room for more biggies, so I'm very envious of this one.

I got the kit and HS set from HobbyEasy in HK. Not cheap but worth it in my opinion!

Must be flyhawk month for me :D

Denmark POW (which is the one I wanted) typically came up for sale after I'd purchased the later far east version of her. Will probably sell that one on as I'm unlikely to build one let alone two :D

I had an enjoyable visit to  the IPMS Modelworld show yesterday and brought a Revell 1/72 Platinum Flower Corvette and a 1/72 Das Werk U9. No idea when I will build them, but valuable loft insulation now winter is coming!

I received a Trumpeter 1/700 HMS Belfast (50s fit) this Christmas, but there seems to be a dearth of aftermarket for it as it stands. Luckily there is a small amount of PE included in the box that caters for the lattice masts and other complex parts, so I may be able to proceed with generic RN fittings.

I'd suspect that give a few months after market will appear for it,

There's a good chance of it. In any event I still have a project to complete first, so I can hold on for the time being and take the opportunity to do some research.

Why is the New Ship Related Releases topic closed? I wanted to ask if there are any VF 1/350 Takao deluxe version reviews in the media, but now I don't know where to post such a question ;)

Believe it was felt that a general rumour thread/section was sufficient for new release discussion for all subject irrespective of modelling area, personally I disagree with that as it makes the thread essentially useless if all you build is maritime. I may be wrong but that's about the only place to post that kind of question now I think,

Not sure if it is media, but the instructions have been shown on: https://x.com/Arc10391/status/1895056867464028221

If having a rumour thread outside of the rumour forum isn't allowed, would moving the maritime section to the rumour thread be possible so at least its only one thread to find vs scrolling through pages of aircraft.

Also I've just received the Type 42 by foreart. It looks pretty good.

I wonder, @Julien is it worth just moving the new ship releases thread over to the rumourmonger, or is it preferred to be creating individual threads for each maritime kit release? As mentioned above, the relatively small proportion of ship related subjects potentially makes them hard to notice or find when sifting through all the aircraft stuff on the general rumourmonger, presumably why the thread was created here in the first place?
