1/6 Indian Chief 1948

Recommended Posts

Well, after a small break (!), almost one year, I'm coming back to the bench. The basis is a 1/6 Guiloy diecast model, and honestly

I'm really impressed by the quality! The great ingenuity deployed for manufacturing, a real industrial challenge is incredible.

Only two screws at all and no glue! The other parts (many) are clipped, and the result is quite beautiful and imposant...

The challenge, get more accuracy to approach the real of that wonderful motorbike.
My point of departure:

The bare Guiloy's frame:

The genuine Indian Chief frame...

Many improvements are needed:

More soon, may be...

Thanks guys, you are welcome!

To Veg, on the Guiloy model it's a left hand throttle, strange idea isn't? On mine

return to a classical configuration... You are a connoisseur!

Today gaz/oil tank. Oil? Yes, the right side is divided, small oil tank on the front and gas tank behind. Of course, on the model...

But it's the game!

First, the correct assembly:

And the different orifices...

Thanks Poul, you are welcome too...

After the tank, of course the seat. The real thing, strange mounting with a spring in the frame...

Guiloy's one:

No spring in the frame for mine but the bracket quite close to the reference. Never 100% accurate, never!

First fittings, not so bad...

Thank you very much guys! I have been a bit lazy with the camera... Many work again done on the frame, insignificant and essential but really time consumer!
Let's go for an exemple, the kick starter.

Of course, the real axle of it is on the frame... With a spring!

Don't forget the retractable pedal...

On the background, you can see the engine with some improvements like this on the cylinders:

And all the holes waiting for real nuts and bolts and some screws!

Welcome to the club Ron! Not really easy sometimes, but it's the best way

to do metal... parts.

Thank you "le fantôme", a come back for you too... With an astonishing work.

After rear brake pedal, on the other side,  clutch pedal of course!

More complex, but more fun!

Where is the Guiloy's part?

How to? Stamping... On the mill.

The system itself is quite strange, but why not?

Lovely looking bike, a real classic.

It takes a lot of nerve and confidence to disassemble a very expensive made up model to rework and extra detail it.

I will be following this project with interest.

On the previous pics, no hardware. Guiloy's one have been removed...

Real hardware is magical!

Thanks Rog, it's a challenge between Mr Guiloy and me...

The first pic is to Ron. Metal with plastic? Why not?

How to manage new hardware? The original part:

And after a boring operation on the mill:

Now, it's time for a jig, all is dry-fitted...
