Ting Yuen, Bronco, 1/350

Recommended Posts

Hello again. I have to admit that i was extremely lazy lately. But my laziness was only in photography field ;) While i was playing with uncle Joe in AFV section, I also worked on this girl. I've 'inherited' this model from a mate that decided that ships aren't for him. So i started with dipping it in brake fluid:

and then it slowly rolled on...

At the moment everything is primed and ready to receive PE an painting afterwards. I'll try to be less lazy and put up pictures more often now ;)

Cheers

Mick

Good start. I'll be following this one, as it's a subject from an interesting time in warship development and very underrepresented in plastic.

Regards,

Ross.

Very interesting ship you have started on, great history and very unique. I also really liked the kit itself. Here is my version of it, in case you are curious. The ratlines (is that the name?) are from Artwox, from a seperately available PE set. Best of luck!!spacer.png

No worries, none of it'll remain clean ;) Nice dark wash, maybe in connection with filter will make it right. Without lighter tone you lose all the detail in overall blackness. But as you say, matter of taste. I like worn and scruffy looking ones :)

Airbrushing phase done ( well there's still some PE to be done, but that'll wait till my finger stops hurting   ) Some details need brushing some extra colors: small caliber barrels, dragons on the hull, wood texture, etc.

Masts and yards are taken from Master's universal sets. I had all the sets they do for 350 so 2 sets of masts and 2 sets of yards. It's the second ship I used them on, the first was Danton. I still have some leftovers for the third one ;) Booms are just paper clips which I filed into dubble cones. I've also transplanted the plastic blocks from the kit ones.

I'm still lazy ;) Hull above the waterline is more-less done. I have to mask it off and put on slime for underwater part.

funnels and masts after smoking, they still need a bit of destruction:

Err, 'fittings' I think. 🙂  All of which are looking very good. 👍 I particularly like those white boats in the last photo.   Regards, Jeff.

Looks excellent. I especially like the subtle modulation on the white barbette covers, very interesting effect. I personally would not have made the ship quite so filthy, but that is a matter of taste; technically, it is superb.

Gidday Mick, this is from an era of warship that I know almost nothing about. Perhaps I should rectify that. But this looks a very good model that you're doing and I am keen to see how it progresses.

One thing that confuses me  -

A few pictures made with washing machine,

How do you take photos with a washing machine? 😲   Regards, Jeff. 🙂

Great looking build; I have to admit the weathered appearence seems overdone, as far as I know ships of the time were kept in pretty prestine condition to show off, but it´s an artistic choice and I respect that. The base is looking cool BTW, a very interesting way of showing a full hull model.

Underwater part of the hull looks pristine few moments before launching, but not after few months in water ;) As to the rest of it, I'm aiming for the moment when she was docked out after the trip from Stettin to home base in China. Spending months at sea doesn't help the look. Plus I have to admit, I like when there is a bit of life in a model. I leave the flat die casts to NAVIGA  modelers :)

Looks ace. One question I have: when building her, I noticed the bridgehouse had no door. None, there simply are windows all around. Is that an oversight? Or did they get in from below? I just added a door on the stern side, but that was pure conjecture. Anyway, I´m looking forward to your nex post.
