Anyone else having trouble with Village Photos?

At first I thought that it was just what I'd uploaded this morning, but now it appears that all of my photos in all of my threads have disappeared. Anyone else experiencing this catastrophe with VP?

So therefore, can anyone recommend an easy to understand and use, free hosting site please?

Ive been using Imgur, its free and unlimited as its a photo streaming service. You have the option of open or private storage. Open means everyone on Imgur can see and comment. Private is for only whomever you link the photo’s too. If an computer/electronic numpty like me can figure it out it must be easy. I use the app but have a true account also.

Thanks Dennis, I'll give them a go, Even if VP comes back on line, this will be useful as a back up. I'm so glad that I have all of my photos backed up on memory sticks and my laptop.

Get them off the memory sticks and put them onto magnetic external hard drives (at least 2 copies of anything important, on separate drives). Despite their drawbacks, they're still the best long term storage that we have for digital media - yes, much more reliable than SSDs.

We had a member complain about Postimages the other day, as it appeared to be posting ads below each picture.  It turned out to be some malware taking the mickey whenever he posted a link.

I know some of the photohosts don't work on a VPN, so check you're not being blocked, but when I clicked on one of the links posted by @dogsbody, I got an SSL security warning.  Maybe someone at the company has forgotten to renew or screwed up their certificate?  The cert says it expired on the 24th Jan 2022, so it looks like the former.  I'm sure someone will pick it up soon and fix it.  Shouldn't take long, but someone should let them iknow in case it's not yet on their radar.

I think that you're right Mike. As I said elsewhere, this happened with VP a couple of year ago. Difference being that then I was still able to get into the site, and my photos hadn't disappeared. All it said was that the site wasn't secure, due to the fact that their certificate had run out. This time though, it seems a bit stronger.

It seems that the secure link is working again.

Have been able to access my account and the photos that I had here on this site that had earlier disappeared are now back.

Trial post.

But I can't see them, just the link that I have to click on and open in a new tab.

Well :poop:! Apparently nothing from V.P will post here. I even tried all 3 by using the Insert Image from URL box, but that didn't work either.

Yes it works. Does give me a security warning when I try to log in though. They need to renew their security cert.

All I see is: 8bb772ce-5ce9-4492-b698-69f6c8f55052.jpg

No picture!

This is strange, because at home on my computer there the pictures were there, but this morning on my works computer they are not. This is the same in build threads elsewhere here, although older pictures still appear. Clicking onto the links also does does not bring up the picture, only that small square thing at the start of the link.

That is a picture

No it's not, its just a link..... at least for me and quite a few other people

It does seem to be security settings - I can open the photo's in a separate tab, but I get a Not Secure warning if I do.

They won't hot link through to Britmodeller.

Any of you tried posting an image using the httpS://  link?

I see plenty of non-secure links being posted. Which is, over the last year, slowly being discouraged in different browsers by throwing up warnings.

I mean.. the idea behind TLS is you use the Secure http link after all ;)

If images with a http:// url are embedded in a page that uses https:// then Chrome (and other upto date browsers) will only access the the image link using https:// ie encrypted with the servers SSL certificate.. VillagePhotos's SSL certificate expired on the 24/1/22 and hence the images failed to load until they replaced it with a new one.

All of my images which I post on here, using VP, are the https ones. At the moment, I am unable to access VP in any way. I can't get passed Google Chrome page, telling me that my connection is not private, with a big red triangle. I'd like to know how some people are able to access the site, or even to see images. I've even lost my signature.

Test

Your picture shows using this link

http://village.photos/images/user/b8901548-b317-43db-99f2-8ddb73d0179e/tn_22140c1b-e216-4d64-817c-28c8e93ba802.jpg

I used the 'copy image link' on the non-functional embedding above.
And that gives me:

No https, no show.
