Tim Moff
I will jump in with this old kit - I am sure I built as a young lad many moons ago.... To try to do something different I will use some aftermarket decals... From what I can find and see the Portuguese airforce effectively bought USN A-7Es - so I am not going into mega detail changes - the main obvious item is the refuelling probe...I can't see any after market and its a bit crazy to by a 1/72 E so i will either go with out, or try to fashion something that will look ok ish! I have bought a couple of quick boost A-4 Skyhawk probs - I may be able to cut them up to get something.... Earlier probe later Probe If anyone knows better please do let me know!
JOCKNEY
Delighted to welcome you and the Portuguese A-7 Corsair to this GB. I had no idea that these saw service in Portugal so every days a school day ! Best of luck Cheers Pat
Rabbit Leader
Great choice Tim, certainly something a little left of field. As you have already mentioned the A-7E has a different refuelling probe and I believe the wheels were slightly thinner than the USAF's A-7D. The other details (you could possibly include the wheels) are all fairly negligible so I wouldn't worry too much there. That looks to be a nice decal sheet to, so this will be an interesting thread to watch. Cheers, welcome aboard and best of luck.. Dave 1
Tim Moff
Enjoying dipping into this build around the FA-18 GB. The kit is surprisingly well made albeit with big panel lines and some gaps to fill… Ive attacked the conversion from D to E/P by building wheels up, using a skyhawk A2A probe and some filler, and carving up the D model refuelling receptacle- with much bloodshed 🤣 Always respect the surgical blade when scraping away plastic !! I need to scribe a trench like panel line over the A2A refuelling ‘fillet’ but hopefully it will blend in Ok .. Rabbit Leader
The conversion looks good, the blood stained paper towel less so! Never mind, no one said this hobby was easy, so a little bloodily fluid expended shows you are having a good go…. It’s just a flesh wound after all! Cheers.. Rabbit Leader
Looks quite good all rub back and sanded a bit. I see those wing folds do need a bit of work too. Nice progress Tim. Cheers.. Dave
Tim Moff
More work, getting paint on - conundrum with the curvey decal...so I got the decals on, gave it 3 cotes og GX100 and gave it 48hrs and masked with some detacked tamiya tape....hoping the decal wont pull up! dents in the mould can be seen here... SEA Tan on first Then the lovely SEA Masking starts!! Next the light green...
Rabbit Leader
Nice update Tim and that Portuguese scheme will look really lovely. I’m surprised to see so much shrinkage in those upper and lower wing parts, but have noticed this on a smaller scale on some of my Matchbox kits. I know you’re well down the painting path, but I’d be trying to fill those a bit to reduce their depth. None the less, she’s looking really good. Cheers.. Dave Thanks Dave - yeah I thought about it - but filling and sanding is my nemesis to be honest - I don't normally build 1/72 so this is a bit of fun tbh!
