Who is going to invade Britain so that 3 B737 will be a deterrent... Ireland? Kind of interesting to see those force multipliers going south! More serious: Chile already had this capability and obviously found it useful. It also has a sizable F-16 fleet. So this all might make sense. Chile is not at best terms with Argentina, but at good with the UK...and US The Sentinels also found a buyer it seems! Kind if all early retired UK equippment does... It is not about who is going to invade us, we already have AEW with the Phalcon system but the platform (Boeing 707) is more than 55 years old, it needed to be replaced to preserve the coordination of the F-16 fleet. We still have differences with Peru (historical) and there is a lot of pressure due to the increase in drug traffic from Bolivia and Peru passing through Chile, so it is necessary to monitor the border 24x7. Finally, no matter how good the relationship with Argentina is now, we must never lower our guard, it already happened to us in the period 1975-1982 and we almost went to war. PD: We also have more than 4200 kms of coastline with heavy pop up of Chinese "fishing" boat fleet, so with all of above WE need the AEW Fleet.
