TonyOD
My current Blenheim build calls for the rings at the front of the engine cowls to be painted "gunmetal", called out as Humbrol 53, a dark metallic grey. However I often see this represented in box art (and for that matter on other folks' builds) as more of a bronzy/coppery sort of colour. Any tips as to how this colour might be achieved, possibly with Humbrol enamels? Thanks (Takes the trouble to actually have a look at the real thing...) Black Knight
I use Humbrol 171 Antique Bronze enamel to which I've added a little of Humbrol 10 Brown. I paint the rings with this then lightly streak it with 29 Dark Earth acrylic and a little 56 Aluminium acrylic edit; I forgot to say I put the Dark Earth and Aluminium on whilst the Antique Bronze is still wet
Alex Gordon
I went with Dark Earth lightly rubbed over with ground up pencil lead and then some very dilute Humbrol 15 Midnight Blue for a bit of variation. 1
dogsbody
That colour depends on the length of time and just how the engine was operated. Modern restorations may not use the exact same material/alloy as was used back then, but more than likely, they are using some real old WW2 era collectors, as it would be hugely expensive to try and build new ones. There are some photos I posted recently: Chris
