Mach 2 Thor 'ICBM Prototype' 1/48 converted to RAF production version.

I've done many Group Builds but never before been first to post in the Gallery. However with only 15 parts to the kit I have really no excuse on this one.

On the other hand its a Mach 2 kit which are not the best and a lot of filler has been used. The decals are both from Xtradecal and nose cone is home made. Most reference came from the excellent book by Geoff Goodchild and the surviving example at RAF Cosford.

Since the missile looks the same from all angles here it is with Aeroclubs 1/48 Vulcan with which it shared the nuclear strike role from 1959 to 1964.

Thanks to @Col. for the unusual Group Build idea and good fortune to those building some very interesting models in this GB.

Here we go....my first for this GB.  The WiP is here...

Another fun build that surprised me in the end.  I wasn't expecting it to look as good as it does.  I mean, its not up there with some of he stuff here, but it coalesced into something respectable.

What's next?  I have an IL-2...I am sure I could find something else, something more esoteric perhaps...?

Here's the first of at least 3 builds for this GB.

This round Monograms A-37B Dragonfly in the livery of RVNAF 520th FS Binh Thuy AB.

Mig-Ammo Paints, some scratch building on the bang seats, FOD screen and antennas. But otherwise pretty much OOB.

The build thread is here:

Here's my ship, the "Hangzhou", of China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). It's optimized for anti-surface warfare (which is why it fits into this group build despite not being a bomber...). (BTW the easiest way to roughly pronounce the name is "Hung - Joe". That's not exact, but close enough. Hangzhou is a large provincial city, the capital of Zhejiang Province, not too far from Shanghai. I went there a few times back in the day - it's most famous for its beautiful big lake.

IMG_20220310_092347838_HDR.jpg?w=1352&ss

The large quad cannister beneath the bridge contains four "sunburn" missiles - monster big supersonic anti-ship missiles. With the other one on the other side that's eight of those monsters. In typical Russian fashion it's armed to the teeth elsewhere too - twin SA-7 SAM launchers, anti-sub rockets, and a ton of guns.

This is the 1/700 Cyber Hobby kit. It came with some PE - the rear mast, the front radars, chopper blades, and some railings (but weirdly, more than you need for the main deck but not enough to do all the decks).

OK...here is my Westland Wyvern, post-Operation Musketeer.  This was a fun kit although I would build it a bit differently if even the chance again.  It took some thinking to navigate the instructions as they were straightforward in a way that was antithetical to actually building this kit.  But I outsmarted them...most of the time.  The WiP is here...

Hello everyone … this is my Frog Car door Tiffy as seen and operated by 181 Sq. In the Spring of 1943 during Exercise Spartan. The car door version is my favorite probably for similar reasons to why I like the P-39.

HP.80:  the first prototype Victor.

This model's been created by heavily re-working the 'classic' 1/96 scale, Lindberg Victor kit.

Here's a link to my build thread, if you would to learn more about what was involved.

The paint scheme is that worn at the 1953 Farnborough Air Show.

Thisa is build of the ancient Hasegawa 1/72 Corsair II which was first released in around 1967 I think. The one I built is the slightly updated moulding in a 1999 reboxing and I have gone for the rather colourful markings of VA-56. Hasegawa do not give a date for them but I suspect it is from the early 1970's when USS Midway was  the first US carrier to be "home based" in Japan. I have replaced the racks and bombs with ones from the Hasegawa Weapons sets and added a little cockpit interior as it is a pretty basic kit.

Here is a link to the build.

DSC06332-crop DSC06334-crop DSC06336-crop

The decs and bombs were a bit of a fiddle but otherwise it went together pretty well.
