PK-42 T-2C Buckeye (another one) ++FINISHED++

Recommended Posts

You wait ages for a Buckeye build , then 2 come along at once...

DSCF0161

Where to start ?  'Basic' doesn't begin to cover it.   So its time for a few random splodges of paint in the cockpit to approximate instrument panels

(not even a decal provided).

Going for the red and white T-2C Navy trainer scheme.

You're so right Ian, you hardly see these being built save for a Classic kit GB such as this one. It might be basic, however that's where the imagination kicks in so you are free to embellish your very own unique Buckeye however way you wish. That's where all the fun starts!

Cheers, welcome aboard and best of luck.. Dave

I'll tag along Ian and chuck any hints and tips that I gain with my build. The Revell re-box has instrument panel transfers so along with my red and white dots in the cockpit they'll add some detail. I found the walkround on the Forum useful for reference if you haven't looked at it yet.

All the best with the build.

For all that we may regard the 2 colour plastic and lack of detail as simplistic, there are some things this kit does right which many today don't.

Take for example the horizontal tailplanes - 2 identical looking pieces, easy to get the wrong way round or out of alignment.

But not with this kit !

One side has 2 lugs and the other only 1, which slots into the gap between the 2 on the other piece.

Simple, but effective.

Crikey as I by magic the Buckey appears  great job

Chris

Still only half a job at best !

The maIn components are all fairly simple, so yes it may well appear to have materialised out of thin air, but in truth I've only glued 10 pieces together 🤣🤣🤣

And thats the beauty of Matchbox kits. We all remember those kits that claimed a zillion parts, but ain’t it funny how that ‘high parts count’ fad seemingly reversed itself and now we modellers are chasing the opposite again! The Buckeye is looking great.

Cheers.. Dave

The wheels are on....  and it's a collossal tail-sitter.

Fortunately there's easy access via the cockpit to pour some "Liquid Gravity" in.

Less fortunately it's spilling out from gawd knows where, so a wadge of blutak

needed under the instrument panel too.

Good job it's a spartan interior with no pesky joysticks getting in the way !!

I put some liquid gravity before I closed up and she seems to sit right, at least without the undercarriage on. There's a massive hole in the nose wheel bay for the nose wheel, if you haven't got that on that may be your leak.

You saved my bacon there - I had forgotten about the nose weight and was about to get the fuselage sides together - remedied with (hopefully) enough weight.

Cheers!

This thread has been a bit short of progress pics, so here's the latest :

DSCF0166

Painting the upper surfaces, still got gear doors to put on below.

And long experience of building Matchbox kits has taught me to never ever consider putting the canopy on until very last unless you want gluey fingerprints on the clear bit :)

Edit : and as you can clearly see in the foreground, liquid gravity was a ironically a big mistake....   have since replaced with regular fishing weights.
