Our new kit CP72027 Airco DH.9a (early) in 1/72 consists of six sprues, one of which is clear, set of photoetched parts, decal sheet.

Now the PDF instructions are also available to download. I'm not so keen on windshields made out of PE parts and acetate, or the tiniest PE parts in general. But there seem to be corresponding parts on the clear sprue, so it probably means a starter kit (without PE) will be released later.

Received mine today, just before vacation. Planned to post a fair comparison with the KP kit, but as it is impossible to make fair comparison between (even actually not that bad) limited run kit based on 15 years old resin master, and contemporary 3D designed wonder, now I am planning to post an unfair one. 😀

Just  got mine as well. Looks lovely at first glance, except I wouldn't use that light a shade of blue in the national markings, but I already have plenty of alternatives.

Paul.

Frankly said, I do not remember having a kit of Great War/interwar RAF plane coming from the East with any other than unusable roundels. But I am a demanding customer and as you said, we all have plenty of alternatives in stock.

As promised, brief Clear Prop/KP in-box comparison.

The principal difference is obvious. KP – all in one sprue. Only today, I noticed absence of transparent parts in my kit. Just me or is it standard?

Now Clear Prop. Two types of wheel covers, two types of propellers, various gun options, almost full engine (at least the visible parts), three types of exhaust pipes, variable transparent parts. Simply all signs of subject well researched. You are getting the value for your money.

Regarding moulding quality, I made just a few pictures of the major parts, judge for yourselves. Clear Prop is always at the top (meaning top of the picture, obviously😀).

In my opinion, if you want a quick build of rather generic Ninak, you do not mind scale 1/70 - 1/71, and you do not mind markings and decals with just superficial relation to reality, go for KP. The kit is good enough. However, if you want it right, Clear Prop is your only option. At least it is for sure my only option.

Now who wants my surplus CMR resin and KP Airco DH-9A, raise your hand. Anyone?😀

For example me - I would be interested in your KP, but the shipping cost is probably more than the price of this kit in the store.

That's why I just ordered KP in my LHS for personal collection tomorrow. Thanks for this comparison - the differences (of course, visible to the naked eye) don't justify the doubled price (in Poland even more than doubled).

And the 147 photo-etched elements became the decisive aspect. I will not fund myself Golgotha with my own money.

Cheers

Michael

I can't find 147 mentioned anywhere, I counted 76 on the fret, the most numerous are fins for the bombs.

That is quite strange, must be a mistake. The actual count is half of that. And it's a different fret than the one that was in the first sprue shots from Clear Prop. The layout is different, and it says DH.9a early, instead of one common for all versions.

Maybe they originally intended to include the turnbuckles with the kit, now it's sold as a different set.

Same here. And 36 of the PE parts are bomb fins, which no-one forces you to use.  Just as well. I'm firmly in the don't like it but will use it if it makes sense camp for the PE, and most of the Clear Prop parts are for things that on the KP kit look toy like (seatbelts and control horns for instance). Still, each to his own.

I don't have the kit yet, waiting mojehobby to get it in stock. I might have to order from Ebay. I'm not exactly a friend of PE either, but what worries me more is the struts and attaching the upper wing. I'm new in the hobby and have very limited experience with biplanes. I've got a HobbyZone biplane jig, it's primarily for 1/48 & 1/32 , but a 1/72 DH.9a is just big enough to fit.

One aspect to consider is that by buying a Clear Prop kit you are supporting a struggling Ukrainian manufacturer, at least in a small way.
