fishplanebeer
I remember as a young lad visiting Elmdon (now Birmingham) airport at the end of the viewing area there was an Avro Anson on display so wondered if anyone has any information on it in terms of serial number and its eventual fate? One afternoon both my brother and I climbed over the fencing surrounding it and managed to get into the fuselage and cockpit, fortunately without being caught, and I still recall seeing daylight coming through the holes in the fuselage fabric.- happy days! Regards Colin.
fishplanebeer
Just to add that it would have been some time around the late 60's and I suspect it would possibly have been a C.19 variant as it definitely wasn't an early mark. Hopefully someone can help solve this enigma for me. Regards Colin.

fishplanebeer
Wow, thank you. That must be the one as I can't imagine there being two there at this time. I did scour 'tinternet but couldn't find anything so this is brilliant! Regards Colin.
gingerbob
I thought perhaps that it was considerably earlier, but the other hits seemed to be definitely later- and shouldn't have had holes in the fabric, unless that was the fault of those meddling kids! fishplanebeer
I've checked the serial number, TX157, and can't find any record of it still being in existence so any ideas please what happened to it in the end? Regards Colin.
SteveBrooking
Hi just happened to pass... Air Britain Anson File records for TX157 BAFO CW/781X/SF Buckeberg/Gutersloh/SF Buckeberg/Colerne CF/1 ANS/FTCCF/BCCS(26)/FTCCS Sold Hawker Siddeley Ltd 22.2.67 and registered G-AVCK but not converted and scrapped 1969
fishplanebeer
Steve, Thank you, by the time I 'entered' it, probably in 1969, the fabric had deteriorated somewhat which resulted in me being able to see daylight coming through the fuselage and probably explains why it was scrapped as it was clearly being neglected. Thank again for the info. Regards Colin.
fishplanebeer
Just a quick question but I'm having difficulty understanding what most of the numbers and letters mean in the Air Britain details, apart from BAFO, SF (station flight?) and CF (conversion flight?) so can anyone explain please? I've checked all my books and googled etc. but no joy. Regards Colin.
SteveBrooking
I think they are likely to be Communication Flight/Squadron; then Flying Training Command; Bomber Command and Air Navigation School.... hope so! Steve
