Just a quick question.

What colour should the ejection seats be? I can find pictures of black ones and grey ones. A

Generally black with grey seat pans.  Various greenery for the cushions.

Did the straps follow the same practice as those on the Mk. 4(?) seats in the Jet Provost with tan/gold parachute straps and blue. seat straps?  I was going to wait for the bespoke RAF boxing but I’m sorely tempted to use this kit to depict an early 12 Squadron or 237 OCU jet.

Yep that sounds about right for straps.  All the parts are there for an early raf jet.  Stencil decals are the hang up.  If you don’t mind using the old 1/48 kit sheet you can make do there.  I think kits world or some such have some stencils on their sheets but are on the dubious side of accuracy.  I’ll start an raf build with my 809 build and maybe the next boxing will be out by the time I get it to the decaling stage - or I’ll rob the old 1/48 kit sheet; I have a few.

Thank you!

I have three or four of the older kit lurking in the Loft of Doom that I can probably rob for stencils; I‘ve heard that other Kits-World sheets are a but dodgy on the accuracy front so I’ll be giving them a wide berth.  From memory the Gulf War jets didn’t have much visible stencilling so that might be a get-out.

Mines out for delivery today :D

I really must get my Hasegawa Phantom finished so I can start on the Bucc :D

Very happy as this completed my collection of Fleet Air Arm jets (all I have to do is build them)!

Here's some photos of the Martin Baker Mk.6 BSB-2 Series 2 Navigator's Ejection Seat as fitted to a Buccaneer S.2 showing the straps. I would imagine most recently when in RAF service.

Received a shipping notice this afternoon, should be with me tomorrow.

I pre-ordered mine back in March when Airfix had their 20% off everything sale, I honestly didn't expect it to include pre-orders but it's gone through on my card at £57.99 including shipping.

Well it looks like I won't be getting mine today, as apparently DPD Local can't find my address (it's coming to my work place) even though they deliver to us virtually every day.

My two have just been delivered, I'll do a bit of an inbox photo review later.

They look superb, crisp dark grey plastic, very fine detail, individually bagged sprues, has to be best Airfix kit ever.

OK it's here and it's stunning.

On opening the box there are three large bags containing the rather large dark grey sprues. Bag 1 containing sprues A and B, bag 2 sprues C and D, bag 3 sprues E,G an H with the clear sprue double bagged in a semi-detached section.

The instruction booklet is 36 pages with 171 build sections, there are also the four colour schemes and a stencil sheet, the decal sheet is by Cartograph and is fantastic covering every single stencil needed.

The plastic is harder than usual and detail is some of the finest I have seen on ANY kit from any manufacturer.

The photos below will speak for themselves.

Just wondering if this kit has actually been manufactured in the UK? With Airfix this is usually synonymous with the harder, darker plastic which seems to provide better defined surface detail (although their 1/48 kits seem to improve with each new release).

No, it's from India using a new type of plastic for the factory.

So who's going to be the first to measure/offer up the old kits bulged bomb bay into the new kits opening to check the size to make an RAF aircraft.

Since you asked !!!!

Fits well over the open bomb bay part for width although in the image here I have moved it just a little bit to show that the lip at either end of the old kit part will need to be removed and possibly the ends of the door itself thinned slightly to fit lengthwise.

New Bomb Bay door over the old bulged door part , again fine for width but locating lip on old part overhangs and the 'cut-ins' on the sides do not quite correspond.

Lots of lovely photos to entice you.  You need a lot of these ^_^

This is not helping me with my resolution to 'not add any more kits to the stash'. :headbang:

OK, just the one then. 😉

So we’ve been debating this kit on our modelclub WhatsApp….and some think it’s not worth the money, and it’s not “Tamegawa-Muadard” so it’ll be….

so I pulled a Zoukie F-EJ out of the stash and compared the top wings….

ENOUGH SAID.

WELL DONE AIRFIX, a British company building British subjects….superb.

And if it builds as beautifully as their Vulan, and Victor which just finished decalling, it’ll awesome.

Gordon has asked me to remaster the NeOmega cockpit…do watch this space my lovely peps.

cheers Si

The Mk6 seats of the time did not have full length seat/parachute straps. They were short straps with Koch fasteners on the end. The crew wore body harnesses that attached to the Koch fasteners.

The full strap "simplified combined harness" only appeared after 1982, by which time the mighty Bucc was soley in the hands of the RAF.

I couldn't see any seat harness parts on the sprue pictures, to see what Airfix had provided. As they had "researched" a later RAF aircraft, so including AN/ALE 40 plates under the exhaust nacelles, I suspect they have the wrong harness for FAA use.

I was on the fence about this kit due to the price and the fact I have two of the old tooling in the stash... and then I saw the Britmodeller review and ordered one straight away 😂

Apart from the obvious bulged payload bay, what other items would I need to repurpose from one of my old S.2B kits to make a late RAF or Gulf war example?

Cheers,

You need to change the arrestor hook housing to the RAF standard one with the flare/chaff boxes.

Honestly I would just build this one as Fleet Air Arm and wait for the RAF specific release as apart from the RAF specific parts you will also get the decal sheet with every stencil you could want.

What differences for an early RAF frame with the non bulged bay would there be?

If you said they were both Eduard I would have believed you.

Standards are getting better......... the question is just how far can they go.

Could build it with an open bomb bay?
