Bbdave
My third and last for this GB my Hawker fury Mk1. An easy build just lining up wing issues but not too stressful I enjoyed doing the paint scheme and look forward to hanging it from my bedroom ceiling 🙄 . PeterB
After a few trials and tribulations I finally managed to complete my Matchbox Halifax. At various stages it was going to be an early B.II Series 1, a late Series 1 with mid upper turret, and maybe a B.I Series 2, but in the end it is another early B.II Series 1 from 10 Squadron who started converting to the Halifax B II in December 1941. This plane was meant to lead their first operation, a daylight raid on Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in Brest on December 18th but had to return to base as the undercarriage would not retract, and it also was leading the second such raid on December 30th when it had a coolant leak - they were new planes and they had only just got them so I guess problems were to be expected. On February 15th 1942 after a raid on St Nazaire, it ran into bad weather on the way home, got lost and ran out of fuel. The crew safely bailed out but the plane was lost. This is a link to the build thread And here it is. Not a bad kit but there are several reported accuracy problems, primarily with the turrets, canopy and engine cowlings. It also seems that the upper front nose slopes down too much. I have thinned the prop blades which were also wrong, and done a bit of work on the radiators to make them look a bit more like those of the B.II which was fitted with the Merlin X engine, but the rest I have left alone. In case you are wondering the "yellow" stripes on all the leading edges are meant to represent "Kilfrost" anti icing paste which many early bombers had painted on them - it was actually an orange/brown mix said to resemble "squashed brown figs" but I may have got it a bit too yellow - it depends on the light. I enjoyed building it but was glad to finish it - thanks to the organisers for an excellent GB. Pete

TonyW
It's no secret that I like a nostalgic type of build. Make an old kit with what was available at the time and just enjoy the experience without getting all tied up with trying to get scale air in the tyres and all that malarky. I'll build a current kit and try my best to make it all work, but my hearts with the old stuff. I've exceled myself on the nostalgia front with this build though, and built the Matchbox Marauder straight out the box with only a tube of glue to help it happen. Bare plastic and kit decals. That's it. nothing more. The fit of the parts was first class throughout. Even the decals, with those great big black and white stripes, behaved themselves and went on without any drama at all. The Airfix version is streets ahead of this one as far as detail goes, but Matchbox made a very decent kit here. During the build, I could feel the frustration of not having paints or references to aid completion, just as a kid might have done back in the seventies. Every bit of pocket money and then some would have been needed to get the kit in the first place and a couple of hours minimum would be needed in the shop making your mind up. " I can get the Mustang, some paints and a tube of glue and get the bus home, or I can blow the lot on that Marauder up there but I'll have to walk home and my Mars Bar will have to wait as well" Sixty three different buying possibilities would have to be analysed and decided on before the shop shut. That kind of thing could tie you in knots but the memories now are priceless. Ah, jumpers for Goalposts, isn't it... Here's a few more shots of the naked kit... And the build thread is here...
davecov
My build of the Matchbox 1/700 Bismarck (40355) (PK-351) It portrays Bismarck in the scheme worn in the Baltic April/May prior to her sailing to Norway for Operation Rheinübung. You can read about this build here. Since taking these photos, I realised that I hadn't painted the tops of the 38cm turrets correctly. I had slavishly followed a set of drawings which turned out to be wrong when comparing them with real photos. I have now painted the turret tops correctly by extending the dark grey down the sloped sides. This is my 9th contribution to the Britmodeller Matchbox 50th Anniversary Group Build. My thanks to those who hosted the GB and my fellow participants who have made this GB one to remember. Dave

TonyW
Yet another one from me. This time it's the trainer version of the Matchbox Hunter. Built as a filler while other builds were stalled, it went together smoothly and enjoyably. It's a basic build, using the stuff in the box. A couple of replacement decals were the only straying from the path. Thoughts of adding better undercarriage doors, drop tank sway braces and a bit more in the cockpit were considered, then dismissed. I wanted a quick build and I got one. Here's the finished model... And here it is keeping my previous F4 build company... Build thread here:
Black Knight
Messerschmitt 109E PK-017 Some details added which were missing on the basic kit The kit is an E3/E4 . I converted it to an E1 As used by the Condor Legion in the Spanish Civil War and the build is here;
TonyW
My second Halifax for the GB was finished this afternoon. Built straight out the box, using the Coastal Command version parts provided by Matchbox. Yet another basic build, but it displays nicely, even if the paintjob relegates it to the back of the cabinet. Matt white is a very unforgiving finish. Lesson learned. Here's the finished model. AdrianMF
SdKfz 251/1 (PK-83, 1976, Revell re-box 2009): The vehicle is built with the merest hint of extra detailing for the driver’s position. The vignette is inspired by this picture from Alamy. I browsed “Soviet rural road 1930s” to get a feel for what would be at a roadside and quickly sequed into YouTube urban explorer videos of present-day abandoned villages for the details. The base is scratchbuilt and the figure is modified from Zvezda Soviet ground crew set. FWIW the WIP is here. Regards, Adrian
Ned
PK-103 Bristol Beaufighter Mk X Aircraft building is a novelty for me, so I couldn't resist adding an Aires cockpit to an otherwise straight build. Vallejo paint, original 1970s decals. This has been a brilliant GB, a real return to childhood for me and many others.
Ray S
This is my second build for this GB, and my second Twin Otter. This time, it had some help from an AeroCraft cockpit upgrade which corrected the cockpit windscreen profile and gives the correct down-sweep of the lower edge of the glazing, and it makes a huge difference. The transfers came from a ModelCraft sheets. Paintwork was Tamiya White Primer for the white, brush-painted Humbrol 60 followed by Humbrol 220 Italian Red, and Humbrol 33 and 21 for the black. Glazing was courtesy of Humbrol Clearfix. The build log is here if anyone wants a look: Thanks for looking, and thanks to to @Rabbit Leader and @JOCKNEY for keeping us all in check and for hosting an absolutely fantastic Group Build! Quiet Mike
My first contribution to a group build! It's been fun, I've loved the trip down memory lane. (I was addicted to them as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s 🥰) This is off the back of a Stranraer build last year, and in the pipeline, but not for this group build either, is another flying boat, the Do18. rob Lyttle
My Norduin Norseman float plane had a little bit of bumpy journey, and at one point was completed as a ski plane because I'd had enough. Apparently I hadn't though 😛! After a suitable lull, and time to contemplate my options with the remains of the float assembly, I had another go. With the lessons learnt from the first session, I got them on and rigged. This little kit is quite a classy little product in many respects - all flying surfaces including the flapsare supplied separately. Perfect for me, I like to show movable items in a moved position. The original decals worked fine. While the kit includes the ski and wheel options, I think this is the Norseman in it's true element, grafting away between the lakes and remote outposts of the Canadian outback. In spite of the structural challenges, I love the look of her on the floats. After all the handling I thought about doing a clean and tidy, but decided against. Hard working little sky trucks can have a bit of grime. That's my excuse anyway..... 😎
psdavidson
HMS Ariadne is sailing! I had planned to do a lot more than I managed, but the mojo was weak. The build and finish aren't great but it's done. Another one ticked on the list Thanks to to @Rabbit Leader and @JOCKNEY for keeping us in line and everyone else for what has been a very entertaining and absolutely HUGE GB Build thread is here /P
825
PK-174 M19 Tank Transporter, Dodge T tractor and Rodgers trailer. Brush painted with Lifecolour Light Stone, and Akan Tyre Black for the 37 tyres. A vehicle of the RASC in the Western Desert. Thats 7 kits built, and including the trailer here there were 10 pieces finished, so I think it's time to stop an drew look at some other kits. I've enjoyed build these so thanks @Rabbit Leader and @JOCKNEY for hosting.

TonyW
Keeping with the Luftwaffe vibe. From Adrians desert scene, we now move to the cold Atlantic with my Dornier flying boat now finished. Another unplanned build, and another one that went together very smoothly. I felt a bit guilty for painting the cockpit interior black, but once the canopy was fitted nothing at all could be seen inside, so that turned out fine! No undercarriage and the Matchbox stand would be under a bit of strain given the shape of the keel, so I fitted a tube into the fuselage and a paper spike slots into that to give me a secure base. This shot has a bit of Photoshop addition to the background and the overall look of the picture. Cheating a bit, but I quite like it. The model is unaltered. davecov
My build of the Matchbox 1/72 Messerschmitt 410 (PK-113) I didn't use any paint, filler, plastic card or aftermarket bits so that it could be built as Matchbox intended - at least according to the illustration on the side of the box. You can read about this build here. Dave 41
rs2man
03219 Morris Truck , 17 Pdr Gun & Jeep ( Revell repop of PK-172) Here's my 5th and final contribution to this fantastic group build , the Revell reissue of the Morris truck, 17-pounder and Jeep combo . I'm happy with the finished product, but the kit was somewhat lacking in detail - both the Morris and Jeep were missing transfer case , propshafts and exhaust. Looks OK so long as you don't look underneath !! Anyway, it all assembled with no filler and the only sanding was on the 17-pounder's spades . Paint was a mix of Humbrol , Revell , Colourcoats , Phoenix Precision and Mr Color . Decals were from the kit. Here's a link to the WIP thread. My thanks to PeterB for explaining how to do the link.
