Romeo Alpha Yankee
Lockheed 5 Vega A42-1 (1941-45) Built from the 1/72 MPM kit to represent an impressed RAAF machine. The only mods were to change the shape of the exhausts, leave off the cooling intake at the rear of the cowl and modify the kit pitot probe. There is no known image of it in RAAF guise except for an entry in the aircraft log that is was painted into camouflage colours at 1AD. So looking at another similar type (Stinson Reliant) which pictures do exist of, I decided on a foliage green over sky scheme with basic national markings. Decals came from a Venture P-40 sheet where I found an A29 serial with the appropriate numbers to make up A42-1.
JWM
Nice looking model! I am searching for some military scheme for Vega 5, perhaps better then that one from box (US.ARMY sole machine) and the RAAF was one of option for me too. I like your decision, but I still have some hope that it will be better justified one day if it was two color or single Foliage Green top... The another option I have found is Lithuania II machine, which ended her live as a target for Soviet bombers on a military test site. Anybody knows another option for Vega 5? k5054nz
I had no idea the RAAF impressed any Vegas - or that there were any in Oz to start with! Nice work Ray!

Fortunately I have found most of these before, but now I noticed on photo with Constellation in background, that OD UC 101 machine has blotches of fresh dark green on leading edges and on front of cowling, what makes this dull scheme a bit more fancy! I apologize that I nearly stolen the thread... Regards J-W
TheyJammedKenny!
Beautiful model, RAY! Your work really shows the original's clean lines. The paint scheme fits, too.
Alfa Juliet Whisky
Well done Ray, I'm just to the decals stage with my build of this kit, after checking my references I've gone with overall foliage green instead of camo' as I first thought, thanks to your inspiration.

stevehnz
I didn't spot this the first time around, I rather like it in its RAAF scheme, more so than supposedly the only one that was done in OD/NG for the USAAF. @Alfa Juliet Whisky, by overall do you mean overall or overall topsides like @Romeo Alpha Yankee has done his. Asking for a friend. Steve.

kapam
Very nice Vega! I’ve always loved how this aircraft looks. My HPM Vega build has been stalled (on the shelf of doom) for many years. Anyway, your work produced a brilliant result. 👏👏👍👍

Ed Russell
That looks nice. It may have been painted like that but it would be unusual. There is a Boomerang in these colours about to fly but it is incorrectly painted. You can make a good case for overall Foliage Green - RAAF specified scheme for transports - or Foliage Green / Earth Brown / RAAF Sky Blue - usual scheme for impressed aircraft. It's well made and maybe was in this scheme?

I found a picture of another impressed type (can't recall the type) which looked to me overall Foliage Green over grey (well it looked like grey!) so I assumed the Vega could be painted the same.
