Meng 1/48 F/A-18E in an experiment which attempted to simulate incident light with paint. The experiment was a partial success, in that I enjoyed doing it and there is a partial illusion of a sunset to starboard, but for a number of reasons discussed in the thread, it failed to live up to expectations. Cracking banter though!

Yes... I know white object over white base is a bad idea.

But it was raining hard outside, and I need to catch an urgent flight. :(

Cheers,

Mario

This was a fun kit, and my first 4th Generation aircraft as far as I know...is the Warthog 4th Gen?  maybe...in any case...It started off as Italeri, switched to Academy, kept the Swiss look and added some Eduard Resin AIM-9X Sidewinders for the wingtips.  I hope to build another of these Academy kits for this GB, but keep it in the USMC instead.

WiP is here...

Red Rippers Rhino

Kit: Hasegawa 1/72 F/A-18F VFA-11 Red Rippers CAG boxing

Subject USN F/A-18F BuNo 166628 as it appeared in 2012-13. The painted centreline tank wasn't a feature of the jet until it was ashore at Oceana in 2013, but the load out is representative of operational missions over Afghanistan flying from the USS Enterprise in 2012

Decals: From the box (did someone say unwieldy?)

Paints: Mostly lacquers - AK Interactive Real for the light and dark ghost greys, Mr Color for the deep blue spin and tails and hot end bits, also some SMS lacquers and some Humbrol enamels here and there.

Extras: Quickboost seats, Eduard AGM-65s, Hasegawa weapons kit for the GBU-38 JDAMs

Comments: Pretty happy with it! Definitely could have benefitted from a little more time and care (mainly there are few areas that could do with a touch up, and my AGM-65s and GBU-38s are a little rough), but on the whole I'm pretty happy. As discussed In most build threads the fit of the upper and lower fuselage sections at the rear end was problematic, but I think in the end, after lots of filling and sanding, doesn't look too bad.

Fun fact: VFA-11 was aboard the USS Enterprise for its last cruise in 2012.

Build thread is here:

1/48 Meng F/A-18F RAAF 1 Squadron

This was a super fun build and I highly recommend this kit.

I still need to paint the cannon at front but was photo shoot day today for KUTA so I thought I may as well post this now too.

Kit: Revell 1/48 F/A-18F Super Hornet

Subject: VFA-102 Diamondbacks 2005 50th Anniversary Scheme, NAF Atsugi, Japan

Decals: Semi-autodestruct ones from the kit - unusual for Revell decals.

Paints: Mostly of Humbrol enamels (remember them?), with Alclad lacquers for the metals.  Mr Hobby for tyres + cockpit NATO grey

Extras: Built OOB - excellent detail already there.

After 27 or so years in my stash I finally managed to get my ancient Hasegawa 1/72 F/A-18A built. Not a bad kit considering it was released in about 1985 and might have been a re-jig of their prototype moulding from earlier. It only comes with tanks, missiles and a sensor/targetting pods which I have not used, but it did have an extra sheet of decs for the squadrons on the USS Midway during the Gulf War, so I marked it up as a plane from VFA-151 with some Rockeyes from a Hasegawa weapons set. I also added the fence on the LERX that was added part way through the production run.

DSC06326-crop DSC06328-crop DSC06330-crop

I did not bother with a lot of the small stencils as they were disintegrating and would have been virtually invisible anyway.

Here is a link to the build.
