What's your latest acquisition Part VII ?

I've got a new vendetta.  I shall elaborate:

The family and I have to move house.  It's a long story, but the upshot is that we have to go, so we've been starting to get things ready.  Part of the moving stuff around involved me putting, amongst other things, my wetsuit and wet gloves/hood/boots in the shed.  I was very unhappy to discover that a mouse seems to have taken a bit of a shine to neoprene and had eaten huge holes in every single item in the bag!  I was so piqued that I declared war of the little furry swine, and deployed cats and mousetraps, seemingly to little effect.  As you can imagine, things are a little tight financially with moving house (to say nothing of fuel and energy prices and our beloved leaders' intent on beggaring us all) so I elected with a heavy heart not to replace the kit until after the move, whenever the hell that might be.  Never mind, I though, I've just renewed my membership of the local angling association, so at least I can still go fly fishing of an evening etc etc.

Imagine my outrage when I went to the shed this afternoon to discover that the wee sod had also developed a taste for Goretex, and had munched holes in my bloomin' waders, too!

This, ladies and gentlemen, means that my latest acquisition is a big chip on my shoulder where mice are concerned!

This, which is a relief, although it does beg the question as to why I woke up feeling like death warmed over:

COVID Test

And yes, that's a cat hair to the left. Even our old Maine Coon didn't shed as much or as effectively as these two.

Decision to buy fewer new kits this year failed again with some more new arrivals this week.      Had mentioned that kits etc. originating in Ukraine/Russia might become a little less common for a while so my wife suggested that maybe I should buy some.     Spurred on by this rare encouragement and inspired by my recent acquisition of the Warpaint Firefly and Barracuda books I did buy some kits . . . . .  although best described as originating in the former Easter Europe rather than the countries mentioned – not quite "As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University" but it worked for me.

From Jadlam Racing

Special Hobby 48145 1/48 Fairey Firefly Mk.I  “Early Missions Over Korea” kit.

From Dave Colley’s Emporium

Special Hobby 48130 1/48 Fairey Firefly AS Mk.7 "Antisubmarine version" kit.

Special Hobby 48069 1/48 Fairey Barracuda Mk.5 Limited Hi-tech kit.

Still looking for a  Special Hobby 1/48 48028 Barracuda Mk.II/III Limited Hi-Tech boxing , just missed one on eBay when my screen froze just as I was about to increase my bid as an auction was ending.

From Terry 1954

Tamiya 60021-900 1/100 Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2 to add to the small pile of other kits from the same series I am gradually working through.

Don't know about your side of the pond but over here along with soaring rates of Covid infection (1:13 UK-wide in the past week apparently )there is 'something going around' heavy cold/flu'ish , feeling battered , had it myself this week and my daughter who lives about a hundred miles away has felt the same  . . . . hope it passes soon and the cats don't get you first.

Funny you say that ... here we are in North Worcestershire, my wife woke up this morning with typical cold symptoms; bunged up nose, sore throat.

This afternoon she felt cold and shivery, then had an attack of womiting and diarrhea. And still felt shivery, though her sore throat has eased considerably.

As I type this she is still affected at the stern, but felt better enough to have some toast earlier. Oh, and she did a test, negative.

Me? Not a sausage. Well, ok, not yet, I could still find myself in her position  -  if you see what I mean.

We thought at first we might be getting a dose of whatever's floating around the grandson's kindergarten, but hearing your comments I'm not so sure that it's just the kindergarten. One thing that has crossed my mind is that omicron, or a new variant, is escaping LF tests - no matter how thoroughly they are done and is mimicing severe colds or even norovirus.

(Which we both caught from the grandson who caught it from kndergarten last September, but that's really best forgotten.)

Thing is, there's always 'something' going round, always has been, always will be. Our local grandkids were both full of cold last week, it was our grandson's first birthday party on Sunday and I ended up full of cold on Tuesday! The distant grandkids are 130 miles away in Hampshire so can't catch anything from them! :)

I've heard of cases of colds here which have people thinking they've been clobbered by COVID, too. Glad you're over it - I am currently under a heated blanket which is being held down by one of the cats. I may survive.

Aye, living in peaceful harmony with nature gets difficult when it does things like that.  I work on a farm and keeping the wiring looms of machinery un-chewed is a hell of a job.

Apparently a counteroffensive/stategic realignment/tactical withdrawal has resulted in Reskit feeling able to resume production, so I got some 1/72 1000-lb bombs with 951 fuses for a Tornado kit, and some AIM-9Bs for an F-4.

@Procopius Do tell - Reskit has returned from suspended animation?  How? 🤔

Could you explain the "maneouvres" part of your statement? 😇

It sounds really interesting. :)

Cheers, Moggy

Per Reskit, they are open for orders and shipping again after Russian troops have left the immediate area.

So I was able to finally fix my Jeep’s brakes after 11 months. I got the brakes done in May of 21, and every 3 months and 3000 miles like clockwork they would fail. I finally got tired of bringing it to the same shop. So two weeks ago and again today hopefully we finally solved the issue. The original shop was warrantying the brakes but buying a generic set of brakes each time. Turns out the metallurgy was bad from the get go on the generic brakes. After about 3000 miles they would melt completely. So after 11 months we put original manufacture brakes on again and hopefully this solves the issue. To treat myself for not wanting to lose my temper Ive treated myself to a few items. First up I finally got my Airfix Vc spitfire. SX3lPxq.jpg

Followed by three decal sheets. Star decals 35-911 USMC Shermans @ Iwo jima. RQsjUzZ.jpg

The Upper left or right will be my build in the Sherman STGB. Followed by these for a Vacuform Ki.32 Mary that I have. The Ki.32 is one of this rare aircraft of Japan from that era that I really like. 9qkKlCD.jpg

Last up is this sheet for Ukrainian Su.25 Frogfoot. Now I just need to find a 1/72 Frogfoot kit what are my options ? tM64yos.png

To help me with my Arma Mustangs, I ordered copies of P-51 Mustang: Development of the Long-Range Escort Fighter by Paul Ludwig, and MMP's Yellow Series book on the P-51B/C & F-6C Mustangs.

Also, MJW Models, my preferred supplier of kits from across the ocean, is apparently having a spot of difficulty at present due to reduced kit sales. So I picked up an IBG Fw190D-9 plus photoetch and a mask, and an Eduard rebox of the Tornado GR1, both in 1/72, of course. I would've grabbed another Arma Mustang as well, but some animal bought that out from under me.

This was an act of solemn duty, rest assured I took no pleasure in it.

@Fat fingers nice to find a fellow trooper aficionado!

oddly enough, one bottle of the trooper IPA  has now been drunk, very tasty.

I'd like to get some of the light brigade, someone I know in Canada managed to get some, I should be able to get some near Kidderminster!

An Airfix Tempest kit, from those fine fellows at MJW Models, still my go to when buying from the UK. I'd got sick of waiting for them to show up from local sellers. Postal rates haven't done them any favours but they are still one of the cheapest in that area.

Nice one. Your association of automotive brakes with kit treats has inspired me to do the same.

I've just overhauled the calipers and fitted new pads on my motorcycle, so I've decided to treat myself to the Arma Hobby P-51B. 😀

Lovely Kit.

I built one back in the late '70's.

An old 1/72 MPM McDonnell XF-85 Goblin is winging its way to me as we speak. Exciting times. It'll be a companion for the not-quite-finished-but-I'll-get-there copy of the kit that I started back in the late 90s (iirc). I will now be able to do both airframes that existed (be still, my beating heart...)

Edit to add: it's become possible to revisit a childhood memory - courtesy of Ebay, a Matchbox HueyCobra will be joining the stash in the near future - it's missing its canopy, but that's fixable, and for 19 Aussie beer vouchers plus post, who could resist? (19 Aussie beer vouchers no longer buys you much beer, so you're better off buying models).
