The tyres are a bit rufty tufty though.

....and the fit of the door makes it look like it was built by British Leyland....!!  🤣

Lot of potential there though Steve - I picked up a couple of similar Mk1 Escort RS2000 models, stripped one of them down, glued the doors in properly and repainted it and it came it quite nice.

Left the other one alone for the play value....!! :)

Keith

Ps - top marks to whoever came up with the name - 'kinsmart car that mate...!!

We've had the AA out (thankfully one of the perks on the wifes bank account - AA membership!)

Forgot to mention originally that we were really impressed with the service we got from the AA. From initial call to arrival to being repaired was actually under 60 minutes! Really brilliant service from them.

No kit bought since june but good resolutions can't last forever.  Especially true when I could (eventually) find this one AND brand new for 16.5 €:

I would have preferred the GR1 boxing but for lack of thrushes I bet on a blackbird.

Kindest regards my friends.

Thanks Vince - I couldn't remember the name - Saico they were! I got the two Escorts and a couple of Anglias from our local Wyevale garden centre some years ago when the Mrs was shopping for some things called plants....??

They were a fiver for two! One thing I found funny on the Escorts were they had the registration number of Roger Clarke's 1972 RAC Rally winning Escort on them LVX942J - of course neither the red or yellow one was particularly authentic....!! 🤣

I bought the red and yellow ones along with the two Mexico ones (which are passable) and you're right they need a bit of work, when i bought them i thought about maybe a Marlboro rally car and perhaps a Martini one (make a change from Focus's) but couldn't get the decals but that was years ago...

That's a lovely expression, Pat.  I've not heard it before, but I'll put it in the bank for further use.

Hi @jackroadkill

Sorry to disappoint you but it's a "scratch built" expression. The correct terms are "For lack of trushes we/one eat(s) blackbirds". But it's just a literal translation of a French expression (I think that the more common English expression with a similar meaning is "Half a loaf is better than none/no bread"). I meant to convey more than that idea of "be happy with what you have", more like "it's not what I wanted but I'll take my chances now with what there is".

If you'd please consider it as some kind of "artistic" license on my part .....

Thanks for your comment.

Cheers.

Pat

A selection of Citadel Contrast paints to have a go with. Been watching quite a few painting vids on the tube and finally decided to give them a go. Not cheap, but then a again not much is these days!

Some aftermarket odds and ends for a future Mi-24 project as well as catch-up on some pre-order book and kit deliveries

From Hannants

To improve a very cheap Mini Hobby Models (Monogram copy) 1/48 Mi-24 . . . . yup - buying any of the more recent Trumpeter/Zvezda/Eduard kits instead would have probably been cheaper in the long run.

Pavla Models 48013 1/48 Mi-24 Chaff/Flare Dispensers in resin.

Master Models AM-48-126 1/48 Mi-24 JakB-12.7 Machine Gun barrel and DUAS Probe in resin and brass.

Eduard Brassin 648573 1/48 Mi-24 Weighted Wheels in resin.

Eduard FE1097 1/48 Mi-24 Cockpit Interior etch.

Eduard FE1098 1/48 Mi-24 Seatbelts etch.

From Creative Models

Eduard Brassin 648497 1/48 UPK-23-250 Gun Pods set of two in resin for the above.

From Fonthill Media

Canberra : The Greatest Multi-Role Aircraft Of The Cold War (Volume 2) book , by Ken Delve and John Sheehan , published by Fonthill and released in the past week , another 624 pages with 530 b&w and 36 colour images completes the story with OCU , Test , Overseas and Miscellaneous users as well as production list etc. , pre-ordered both volumes and saved £30 over their combined RRP.

From Guideline Publications

Warpaint No.134 – Aero L-29 Delfin book , by Jakub Fojtík , published by Guideline and released in the past week as the latest in the series , a lot of information on a not often covered subject (in English anyway) mainly covering Warsaw Pact and post-Cold War European use along with details of the more obscure operators of this widely used aircraft type , sadly as many of us have probably discovered over the years on a multitude of subjects the more obscure a military operator is the more institutionally secretive they are (often with little real reason) so not too many images from outside European use but an excellent reference nonetheless and at last I have the background for the L-29 Recce variant for my AMK kit and Quickboost conversion.

From Humbrol

Airfix A09191 1/48 Avro Anson Mk.I kit , pre-ordered earlier in the year , no idea when it will get built though.

I too thought it had a nice sound to it & did a good job of conveying your meaning, it worked for me. :)

Steve.

Thank you Steve @stevehnz and @jackroadkill.

Happy to hear 😇 that my "linguistical creativity" echoed 😁 pleasantly in your ears.

Will we one time see it in the Cambridge dictionary? Or, ultimate honour, in Oxford's? :ignore:

Be well.

Pat.

PS Congratulations for your retirement Steve.

A trip to Halifax Modellers World yesterday netted, what should be the last kits prior to SMW. All 1/72nd

Airfix Meteor F.8, wasn't going to bother, but a look at what was in the box and review tempted me. Looks a better bet the the SH one, at least the wing leading edges are not square.

KP SA Bulldog. Looks quite well moulded.

SH Mirage IIICJ. An Israeli Mirage is irresistible.

Not the Buchón, rather a Tripala conversion.

For the Battle of France/Low Countries/Fall Gelb 1/48 decal set from DutchDecal, to do a Belgian Gladiator. If Eduard picked this one to rebox, it must be doable.

A not expected purchase today, although was in the offing. A new bed. Our old one was bought cheap as a stop gap 12 years ago, and was getting a bit creaky. The last straw was after we had vacuumed under it and it made a worrying cracking sound. CIoser inspection revealed that one of the side piece had suffered a fatigue failure. A trip to our local IKEA (15mins away) and we now have a nice new solid bed which Mr T junior and myself put together with no problems. Now enjoying an aperitif before roast chicken and all the trimmings.

Purely out of my strong desire to support the freedom-loving people of Ukraine, and not out of a sordid urge to merely own lots of kits of big jets I'll never have time to build, I bought a 1/72 BPK P-8 Poseidon. My advice to anyone doing so is to go through ebay rather than the BPK site.

Two Arma Sea Hurricanes.

The Silent Deep, by Peter Hennessy, which is reputedly a dry and exhaustive history (the way I like 'em) of the Cold War-era Royal Navy's submarine force.

The Age of Invincible, by Nick Childs, as I've been really interested in the process that lead to her being procured in spite of the improvably-named First Sea Lord Sir Varyl Begg's opposition to carriers, and I hope the book touches on it.

An Xtradecal sheet with an IX(B) Typhoon, so I can build a Meteor-armed QRA jet.

Finally finished paying the last of the hospital bills for the baby: the total was somewhere in the region of $2,600 after insurance. Hold on to your NHS, folks.

Things I have not bought: a shipping label to mail John Laidlaw the Mustangs I owe him, because I am a small, stupid human being, and it's easier to buy something than to fulfill my obligations to others.

I've read it, and I enjoyed it.

And a brace from the Hinkley show earlier this month. The Draken  box is  enormous compared to the contents!

I think that's mostly due to the standard box sizes H2K use - it's the same size as the F-111 & F-4, or the 1/48 P-40.
The sprues are too wide for the slimmer 1/72 hasegawa-style ones (I checked :P
