Arrived, and slightly lighter than the XA version but looks brilliant compared to photos of the real thing. Also ordered an Xtradecal white serial sheet for my BBMF spitfire XIX, can speed through it now I've got that sorted. Also about to pop to my local for some additional paint, watch this space to see if a kit leaves with me. edit indeed an Og 1970s airfix spitfire I

I had some decent offers from a seller on eBay for some Arcus enamel sets, so I bought four of them, these being the FAA Biplane, Sturmoviz, Aegean Ghosts and Mod Eagle sets. I had bought the Battle Of Britain one a few months ago and was pleased with how they sprayed and with the colours themselves. They kind reminded me in use and odour of the old Humbrol Super Enamels from the 1990s.

 

There isn't a huge array of choice these days for the enamel user, so I'm glad they're around. Ukrainian, too.

Had a bit of a windfall (overtime and standby shift payout).

With the apparent demise of Pavla, I figured I'd get handy parts for stuff in the stash while they're still in stock.

Apart from that, the SW Pacific theme got some love with the B-17E and Hurri IIA trop (ML-KNIL). 
FineMolds' F-4D was the last one in stock and it was feeling lonely so now it can join the rest of the herd here.

Picked up an Academy 1/48 P-38 Lightning, 1/72 Bf.109E, Frog Blenheim, another 1/72 F-86, and a Special Hobby 1/72 Gloster Meteor T Mk.7.5 which will be in the Israeli markings. As well as a 1/72 Hasegawa 1/72 F9F-2 and a Hobbyboss 1/72 P-39. May yet pick up a Sword Cougar and an Armored car in 1/35 soon ?

Went a bit overboard with ordering items for future projects last week and the first have started to arrive although might be into October before they are all here and some purchases are going to lead into other purchases come Plod Pension Day on the 15th . . . . .  and that was before the Airfix Buccaneer was released.

Just in case I ever get round to one of my Airfix kits , from quite a wide selection of resin conversions described as ‘1/48 Die Cast Resin Model ‘ with no named manufacturer , no instructions , no labelling included but moulding blocks are marked  ‘Blackdog’ I chose a pair of 1/48 resin conversions for the Lynx AH.7 -  Nose Avionics Bay & Tail Boom With Removed Panels  and  Exposed Engine Bay With Removed Panels  , total cost £22 including minimal shipping charges , delivered within 10 days but as is the way of Ali Express a kit ordered at the same time with far more expensive shipping has a delivery date some 10 weeks in the future.

RAF In Camera : 100 Years On Display , by Keith Wilson , newly released by Pen & Sword , similar hefty weight , size and very heavily illustrated format to the earlier 1950s , 60s and 70s volumes but dealing with the public face of the RAF during its history , with shipping I saved £10 on RRP using a ‘new release’ offer received last week from the publisher on the same day as the great muddy e-river of commerce cancelled my much cheaper long-standing ‘guaranteed’ pre-order price because publication had been postponed indefinitely.

Spalding Yesterday. We normally deliver to Spalding on a Thursday when Mason's models are closed.

Yesterday I had deliveries there, so I managed to pop in. I found an impressive stock of models and accessories in there. Some good sale items too.

At least four different paint ranges and two friendly blokes behind the counter.

All I needed though was Tamiya extra thin glue and Their flat clear spray, Good prices though. 

Well worth a visit in my opinion.

For more years than I care to admit to, my other main past-time is PC-Gaming, playing everything from strategy games to FPS to RPG's - this has been exclusively on desktop systems that I have built myself over the years. I've always need to keep "busy" and now I know why that is!

 

To that end, I've been trying to save up for a mid range gaming laptop. One that will allow me to still play the games in my various digital libraries (Steam, Origin, Uplay etc) but would also allow me to play them at some sort of reasonable level of graphics with a decent spec. After lots of searching, checking reviews etc, managed to tie one down that was also on a special offer from one of my favourite retailers (been using this company for all my components for nearly 30 years!).

 

 

Basic gist - just as good as my desktop system, (slightly less storage) but in a portable package! Normally retails around the £1300(ish) mark, but reduced to under £1100 at the moment. More than I wanted to pay, but for such a decent gaming laptop, a pretty good price! (Being a typical geek, I'm already looking at how to upgrade the built in storage!)

 

(I should add that I do have a cheap laptop already, good enough for basic stuff, got from wifes place of work when they updated their laptops... It's just not up to playing any games! But I will strip it of any spare parts before being got rid of though!)

Update 08/08/2022 - I've had to cancel the order - item was on back order with an original eta of 01/08/2022. Sadly this was delayed until 08/08/2022, and has now been delayed again until 12/08/2022. With no realistic due accurate due date I've had to take the decision to cancel the order. Shame really as for the money, I was getting a really decent, and high specced gaming laptop!

 

Now got to start the search again - may have to go with my second place machine instead!

Took some much-needed vacation and decided on a city trip to Poland (Kraków and Warsaw) for a week. Lucky me, there was a nice Bookstore just 10 minutes from my hotel in Warsaw which also had a sizeable selection of military books.

 

There I got these:

 

 

Quite unusual, these are postcards which cover aircraft from the beginning of Russian aviation, from Tsarist times until the end of the Russian Civil War. Each card has a colour profile, short descriptive text and the photo the profile was based on. These profiles come from a 4-part series of books (КРАСКИ РУССКОЙ АВИАЦИИ = Russian Aviation Colours) which cover the history of identification markings, emblems and personal markings of early Russian military aviation. Like the books, each part of the set covers a different topic:

• Part 1: Imperial Russian aviation 1909 - 1914 (Pre-War)
• Part 2: Imperial Russian aviation 1914 - 1917 (First World War)
• Part 3: Bolshevik forces 1918 - 1922 (Russian Civil War)
• Part 4: White Forces 1918 - 1922 (Russian Civil War)

This is what the cards look like (each set contains 15 cards):

 

Although early aviation is not really my interest, lesser known topics/conflicts are. Plus, the very nice owner of the shop made me an offer I simply couldn't refuse  and so I got the whole set for just zł63 (€13,40 / £11,32).

A couple of books from the Ferrymead Transport Museum as a fund raiser, 1000 Destroyed, the 4th Fighter group in WW2 & The Naval War in the West, The Wolf Packs, I thought it would provide background for the Escort Carriers book I bought recently too. Also some CF-100 decals from Over & Under from Canada, looks like I'm into the Candian GB.

Final update on this one: Delivery date changed again to the 19th August so it more or less looks like this particular laptop is definitely not going to be delivered to the retailers any time soon! Have spent the last few days looking at reviews, and technical specs for dozens of gaming laptops. I had a budget in mind that I was working to, but sadly, I've had to go somewhat over that budget to get a laptop that has enough grunt to be able to play the games I have that they don't end up looking like a slideshow! Should be delivered in the next couple of days.

Building British Phantoms Volume 1 – The FG.1 Phantom II in Royal Navy , Fleet Air Arm and A&AEE Service , by Geoff Coughlin , e-book released this week by KLP , 366 page PDF with mix of full-size aviation and modelling features although think that ‘Royal Navy’ in title should perhaps read ‘Royal Air Force’ , some duplication of images but still excellent value for the equivalent of around £12.

Second-hand copy of Mosquito , Typhoon , Tempest At War , by Chaz Bowyer , Arthur Reed and Roland Beamont , published 1995 by The Promotional Reprint Company as a compilation of the earlier Mosquito at War and Typhoon and Tempest at War published separately in 1973 and 1974 respectively by Ian Allan , excellent condition with 300+ well illustrated pages with total cost including shipping for around the same as most current monthly aviation/modelling mags.
