I'm suprised it hasn't been heard of before, for example if a company is in trouble financially it's said to be "in dire straits"...

I certainly knew the term Vince, but when you said ;

Im surprised they had no offcuts ? Ive never had a problem asking if they had bits left over but maybe thats not common in the U.K. ?

Aye up Dennis,

Due to it being a Sunday there were no small independent merchants open so had to get it from one of the big chains (Screwfix) Was just over £3.00 for a 3 meter length and i'm sure i'll find a use for the 2.5 meters i have left! 😀

Regards,

Ah I see now, we have similar issues in some areas where merchant's don't open on a Sunday. In other locations its not a problem, bit hit & miss.

After waiting 6-12 months on backorder this I'm told is in the post!

When our youngest son was 21 we took his Beetle to a specialist 911 builder Frances Tuthill. He did suspension/paint etc to make it ready to show in the Cal-Look class. Two of these were in his workshop along with about twenty other 911's, 914's, and 365's all being restored. His son Richard still supplies classic 911's for racing and rallying.

For my forthcoming birthday my wife bought me this:

IMG_0886[1]

A turbot, about 1.2kg.

I've wanted to try turbot for many years, but never found a restaurant which sold it, or if one did, a 6 to 8 ounce fillet cost £30 or more.

Anyway, SWMBO, after listening to me go on about turbot the other day, went and bought the above fish from an on line retailer and it arrived Saturday morning.

This isn't going to turn into a Nigel Heath recipe post, suffice to say I filleted it (first flat fish I've ever filleted), and ate it on Saturday night with a fennel and lemon garnish, petit pois and lightly spiced potato wedges, and a rather nice  Gruner Veltliner it went down a treat !

In slight panic mode this last week, a Dora Wings P-43 found its way into my HLJ private warehouse, not a bad price either for their stuff, & after looking & not finding anything decently priced on ebay or over there , I tripped over a Zvezda 757-200 1/144 kit with a local seller at a very reasonable amount. Happy with them. :) Goodness knows how long it'll be, if at all, some of the items from that part of the world will become available again. Hoping not too long. :unsure:

When I saw the picture, before reading the post, I thought you'd got something like this:

Funny thing is my father in law loved this!

In fact, he had one, it was a good laugh watching it singing, if you see what I mean😉

So did SWMBO.  She actually ordered one, but fortunately it was never delivered!
