Nice work on those tanks Alistair,  nearly there now

Chris

Thanks Chris,

They're far from perfect but from a foot away they look OK.

Still got the spinner to do and I will admit that is scaring me. :door:

Cheers,

Alistair

Not much to tell at the moment.

A light Flory Wash on the fuselage.

As usual the photos show up some areas that need a bit more wiping.

Later on today I'll attempt the undercarriage and see if I can get her on her feet.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Wow - just found this! I started mine around the same time as you, but haven't even got the fuselage together yet!  I've made myself a little nervous of it by reading a couple of reviews that said the fit's not that great so I've been doing lots of dry fitting and sanding.  Seems to have been a fairly straightforward process for you, which gives me heart - and a little motivation 🙂 Had seen that the decals were prone to breaking up, but you don't seem to have had any issues.

She looks lovely!

Thanks very much.

I've found the fit to be really good, yes, the fuselage needed a little friendly persuasion :fight: to persuade it to join up but I've had no real problems so far.

The decals are Techmod, I believe, and I had no breakage at all getting them on.

I've been watching your build and it's going fine.

It's a great kit and I look forward to yours finishing.

Alistair

The undercarriage legs, doors, tanks and pylons were glued into place and when the glue had cured I tried to see if she would stand up.

Imagine my shock and surprise when she rolled back on to her tail.

No worries I thought I'll just have to angle the arrestor hook to prop things up but I couldn't believe I'd not put enough weight in.

At this point I hunkered down to see what was happening on the underside and realised that without the main wheels on the radome was the first thing in contact.

The wheels were painted up and then stuck on and when I was sure they could take it I very gingerly tried her out in the upright position.

This is what I saw........................................

Much wailing and gnashing of teeth has been prevented in Polmont tonight. :penguin::thumbsup:

Now, I'll need to paint and stick on the little fiddly bits and sort out the antenna.

Once that done I'll look into the props and spinner.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Excellent to see it standing and not tail sitting Alistair,  great news and by heck t looks fantastic too.

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris,

When it initially rolled back onto it's tail my heart hit my boots.

I wasn't certain that adding the wheels would solve it but there was a great sigh of relief in the manor, Squire.

Alistair

Still trying to decide if it’s more or less ungainly than a regular Gannet... Lovely modelling though - I did have a chuckle about the wheels too.

Adrian

Thanks Aidrian,

I think she is as gainly as two African Swallows transporting a coconut between them. :D

Not much to report.

I got all the small bits off the sprues to be painted and decided to go with the propellers as well.

The yellow and white bits were primed with Tamiya Flat White and the rest with Tamiya Neutral Grey.

Paints used ColourCoats Sky Type S, Extra Dark Sea Grey and FAA/RAF Yellow

More masking tomorrow and some black then I will be ready for the final assembly of the kit pieces.

I have twisted two small bits of electrical wire for the Aerial assembly and once I get everything in situ I will drill small holes in the upper vanes.

The plan being that I can use one piece of Uschi Rigging to complete the Aerial.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Nice to see all the sticky out bits and the spinner progress too.

Great work Alistair.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

It feels like it's starting to come together.

We'll see how the masking tomorrow goes that could be the interesting bit.  or possibly :poo:

You will be OK Alistair, just take your time mate.

Simon.

Thanks Simon,

I will it's the thought more than the actual masking that's bothering me.

Even if it does go wrong there's nothing that can't be fixed by stripping back and starting again.

Cheers,

Alistair.

Masking applied, Nato Black sprayed and the unmasked.

The pictures, as always, show some minor touch ups that need done.

As I was at it I got some Rubber Black on the Nose Wheels.

2Zjs5cL.jpg

I'm having a well deserved cuppa at the moment then will get the touch ups done and then I have been informed that I have some domestic chores to do.

On pain of death, I might add.

After that, and,  once I've made the Butternut Squash soup as part of tonight's dinner all should be good to get on with the final assembly.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Nose wheels, bobbly and sticky-out bits glued on.

Twisted wire in place for aerial rigging in the future.

GIOPrrP.jpg

It'll need to be painted and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it will hold for the rigging.

I've finished the props and I'm quite pleased with it.

I'll need to touch up the nose black and then it'll get a coat of satin varnish.

Still to do.

Paint the aerial holding wires.

Clear coat the main fuselage and prop.

Fit the Operators windows, landing lights and the Operators door.

The end is in sight.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair
