Alex Gordon
G'day Chums. One of my magnifier lamps flickered a little this afternoon so I decided to have a looksee. The brown bit was very hot. Hot enough to distort the plastic. The tube was on its way out.I opened it up to change it and found this. I got away with it this time but from now on I'll have a look from time to time and hopefully avoid having a serious problem. All the best all, have a productive New Year. modeltech
I have a magnifier lamp clamp to a table in front of a South facing window. One bright sunny day, after I had adjusted the lamp to look at something-I looked and went back about my business. About 15 minutes later I smelled something burning. Yes the sun had aligned perfectly with the lamp and was tracing a line across the open book that was below the magnifier...
stringbag
Just checked mine and found a similar issue so thanks for the heads-up Alex. Probably wouldn't have spotted it without. Chris.
Duncan B
I have switched to LED work lamps now but had previously noticed that the tube on my magnifier lamp was quite hot. I also had a near miss with the sun shining through it and burning a hole in the carpet once, it got covered when not in use after that.
