Natter's 2021

I built more than my annual average this year, despite spending several hundred hours rebuilding my Land Rover Series III. I have completed 8 models compared with an average of 6. Many of the builds have been completed for GBs, mostly to provide some extra motivation. There are some interesting GBs through 2022, so here's hoping for a further increase in the average.

In mid-January I finished the Zvezda 1/72 Mig-21bis in the markings of the Madagascar Air Force. RFI post here.

Next, at the end of January was the Xtrakit 1/72 Gloster Meteor F8 with Isradecals Israeli marking. RFI post here.

00-Starboard

The May Blitzbuild produced the newer mould Airfix A-4 Skyhawk with aftermarket decals. WiP is here and the RFI is in the GB Gallery here.

For the Less Than a Tenner GB I built Heller's 1/43 Mercedes SL450 using Zero Paints Byzanzgelb gold. The WiP is here  and the RFI can be found in the GB Gallery on this page.

0a Upper Front Left

There's a GB theme here, and the next model which I built for the French Fancy II GB in October was the Airfix 54mm 1815 French Line Infantryman. The WiP is to be found linked here and the RFI is in the Gallery and can be found here

Yet another GB, this time the High Wing GB, saw Heller's 1/72 Les Mureaux 117 built after many years in my stash. The WiP is linked here and the RFI is halfway down the second page of the Gallery here.

01-Port side

I broke from the GBs and built Revell's 1/32 Opel GT from their snap-together kit. This was built for a mate of mine and he was well pleased with it. The RFI can be found here.

00-01-Side quarter

To get a final model over the line in 2021 I joined in with the Christmas Blitzenbuild and made the Stalingrad Models 1/35 Refugees with Baby Carriage Europe 1939-1945. This was completed in approximately 21.5 hours and although I am no figure specialist I am reasonably pleased with the result. The WiP is here and the finished model is in the Gallery near the bottom of the page at this link

00-a Left front

Not quite a model, but I spent most of the summer making a kit of parts out of this and then putting it all back together again. Maybe with no more Land Rovers to rebuild I may make more models in 2022. Maybe.

Some lovely variety in your builds Dave, really nice. I like your figures. And your 1:1 Land Rover is just very pretty! I'm building the Italeri version on the sneak and I mixed almost exactly this colour for it! Love it.

What a great collection of neat, clean builds, Dave, and what variety. The SL is beautiful, and belies its scale (you should really get one of those giant Humbrol tinlets to show it off...), but the French infantryman just shades it for my favourite. A really nice piece of work with lovely detail painting and bags of character.

Happy New Year!

best,

M.

Nice collection Dave,

cracking builds, I like the blue background I will give that a go. The 1:1 scale Land Rover looks fantastic.

Some lovely models, particularly taken by the Meteor, really nice work on all of them though.

Rather jealous of the Landy, beautiful build on that one! Don't fancy doing the same to a 1979 Mini 1275GT? No? Thought not....!! 🤣

Cracking years work!

Bit too nervous about the welding work. Bird-poo welds on a Landy chassis don't look out of place!

Our Min is built as a rally car, so nothing pretty about the welding in it either! I hadn't welded anything for getting on 40 years (oxy-acetylene....!!) so my son took a couple of NVQ courses to learn mig & tig welding - he got quite good at it!
