Would you expect a different rear fuselage for the non-afterburning early versions? (MiG-17, 17A and 17AS) as far as I understand the engine was the main difference, no?

Did the airbrake style change as well?

Anything else? Cannon assortmentstayed the same no?

Thanks!

Is a new tool? That would be great!

My guess is this is the SMER kit with new markings and better decals.  Should be interesting to see what actually is in the box.  The SMER kit was a nice little kit.  Not sure about dimensions etc. but it looks like a MiG-17 when built.  If this really is a new kit then Yahoo!!!  Waiting to see...

I think it is a rather nice representation shape wise for an F model ( there is also the radar equipped PF available)

Basic cockpit only, and thinner replacement canopy desired...

Panel lines a bit heavy....

The second model from the company Směr is in 1/48 scale. It is a very successful MiG-17PF / PFU kit, supplemented by a new fuselage, different parts, armament for the first version of this famous aircraft. These versions, MiG-17, 17A, 17AS, have not yet been produced in 1/48 scale – so we will fill another gap in the market.

I don´t know why people say "old" as trying to describe "bad" between the lines.  I have the Smer kit and is really nice and I remember it was cheap.  Of course you need some basic modelling skills to build it, maybe needs some extra detailing in the cockpit and undercarriage, but besides that and the fact that it has a little bit of overdone engraving, it is a really good kit for the price.  Hobbyboss is nicer, yes, if you can afford the $30+ price tag.

The decal sheets seen here will provide really interesting versions on the KP reissue.

In fact, all the ex-Smer kits are really interesting and nice kits like the Su-7 and Su-22 Fitter and the Su-25 Frogfoot.  The Mig-21 is good, but now there is better offerings.

Definitely not bad! But definitely not to modern standards either.

The canopy is rather crude.

Anyone has a price already?

A Fresco A should be an early MiG-17, not sure about the "at war" boxing.....I assume those are MiG-17F, or Fresco Cs... ( what I expect to actually be in the box!)

Agreed. I find it a particularly annoying habit but, sometimes I think that "needs some basic modelling skills" is also equated to "bad" in the eyes of some!

I missed out on the Airfix release but, I'm tempted this time round. A decent little kit at a decent little price works for me!

 John

Even Tamiya, Eduard and the likes "needs some basic modelling skills" otherwise there would be no aftermarket aimed for many kits of those brands.  Interiors, undercarriage and decals are the main issues on those as well... So, you need some basic modelling skills to solve easy problems.

Absolutely right.  There is where your modelling skills comes in handy to add to the fun.  Vac formed canopy from Tasman is a great solution here.
