Generic Israeli decals - Ouragan, Mystere, Super Mystere, Mirage, Skyhawks etc.. Recommendations?

All,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a fairly generic decal sheet(s) that includes Israeli roundels, squadron badges and typical style Israel number fonts for the Cold War Fast Jets operated by the Israeli Air Force? I’m not exactly after one decal sheet per aircraft type as I’m unlikely to ever acquire more than one example of each model so does anyone know if what I’m after does or has ever existed?

Cheers, thanks and kind regards.. Dave

I'm assuming you mean 72nd Dave?

Isradecal did a sheet of various sized star of david roundels, as it seems did Microscale,  as I misremembered the below

Almark did IAF unit badges with Hebrew stencilling

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/almark-decals-a37-israeli-air-force--197063

Long OOP, but maybe worth a search for.

DP Caspar did sheets of various operations,

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/dp-casper-72013-moked-june-1967--136512

which has Mirage III, Ouragan, Super Mystere, Mirage IV and Magister, plus a load more,  I don't know how well researched the Arab ones are,  I have this, just annoying that what should be 'cheap' kits, ie old Airfix/Matchbox/Heller  to build basically OOB and slap them on are now on the pricey side....

I'm torn as I have a disturbing amount of these subject in 1/48th plus decals as well.....    Of which I have built none..... :banghead:

DP Caspar  also did a Suez sheet

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/dp-casper-72017-musketeer-and-kadesh-october-1956--200017

Harvard, Mustangs, Mosquito, Meteor, Mystere IV, Ouragan

This is the Isradecal list,

https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION[]=All&q=isradecal&fkSCALENORMALISED[]="1:00072"

sadly most are OOP, but given they all had many options,  leftovers must be 'out there'  and at least with decals getting them from modeller donations is at least cheap on the postage.

Hannants have found some of the old 1/72 Almark sheet of Squadron Badges and some stencilling and are offering them for a very reasonable price - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AKA37 - there was also a similar 1/48 sheet but that might be harder to find.

Thanks Dez, actually I should have mentioned 1/72 scale so that decal sheet is a good start for the price.

Cheers.. Dave

It sure does Troy, many thanks for the extensive and informative post. Yes, 1/72 is the scale and I do agree that some of these older kits (Matchbox Mystere) are now attracting silly money. I’ve got good examples of all the others and was just hoping to build up a collection without going all overboard and breaking the bank. I’ll take a good look at all those links shortly.

Cheers and much appreciated.. Dave

for what are 'not great' kits ironically,  decent enough shelf models, but really should be bargain fodder....and are often only fractionally cheaper than more recent toolings, though these seem to usually be short run ones from the usual Czech places.

My other hint, look for folks who have used any of the above sheets and ask them directly for leftovers.... ;)

Be aware, the IAF flew a rather fascinating selection of types, and it can be a bit of a rabbit hole,  as some have rather interesting schemes...

eg Mosquito , TT.III - yellow, NF.30 - Black, FB.VI - silver dope, PR.XVI brown/blue, TR.33 Sea Mosquito, either silver dope or later brown/blue

They only had 3 B-17s but they all had different schemes....     here's two at one poinbt

not that I'm trying to lead you astray

Which I have, but is out of register, as are a lot of older Microscale sheets (and, alas, all my recent Xtradecal ones...).

Another thumbs up for the Almark sheet. Especially the stencilling is very useful.

Well SqLr Rabbit

You then have to look here

https://aztecmodels.com/collections/decals/products/g-006-generic-israeli-air-force-roundels

It could provide for roundel replacement for most of Airfix, Heller, Hasegawa, Esci, Lindberg, Esci kits in wonderfull 1/72 scale and also is available for those who had all the space in the house thats for 1/48 scale

Cheers

Dave, you are welcome to the Israeli elements of the decals sets from my SH Super Mysteres. I won’t ever use them. PM me your address and I can get them in the post.

Martin

I also have the Israeli set from my Valom Ouragan (72059). Again, I will never use them and you’d be welcome to have them. I might have Fouga Magister too. I am away at present so will check when home.

Airfix had also a very interesting kit for this topic:

The Sikorsky S-65 C 3 Yas'ur

It was the first issue 1981.

Markings for the "Albatros Squadron" for Operation Rooster 53 - Ras Garib 1969

The issue from 1986 has markings for the 118 Tayeset (Nocturnal Birds) Squadron.
