Thirsty
Got a bit more done over the last day or so. Dont like those fork clamps but I couldn't work out an easy way to fix it so put some nuts on the other side and moved on. Priming and sanding then repeat 10 times! Took out all the old wiring - wasn't happy with it. Got some new thin wire - much better Wiring up the tail light and blinkers. Making zip ties out of a milk container - works OK I think.
Thirsty
OK so got some painting done today. I'm doing all the body bits except the fairing as I have to modify it first so it's going last. Painted the bits with primer and painted the tank off white. My research shows these bikes weren't stark white - they seem to be slightly off white so I made my own colour using white with a small amount of brown and a tiny amount of yellow. Seems about right maybe a little dark. There is a photo comparing it to the unpainted fairing which is probably about the right colour. If the bike was meant to be white then Tamiya would have moulded it in white. Tank fits! Just about the right colour. Instrument decals done. Handlebar wiring done. Tail lights and blinker wiring finished. I think all of these wires go into the headlight shell like normal 80's bikes.
Pouln
This all looks really fantastic, but there is one thing that bugs me (not really). You are creating a used bike, but the odometer says it is really new 😏

Front mudguard done. Put a coat of clear on the tank and side covers/cowl to make masking easier for the red bits. Earth cable for the battery connected. Also made up a split pin for the rear axle bolt but couldn't get a decent picture of it. Tomorrow is masking and painting the tank and side cover/cowl. I started making the bowl shape for the underside of the fairing and will finish that tomorrow. 1
Thirsty
Might make this one next And here's one I almost finished but I lost the seat - can't find it anywhere!

Thirsty
Thought I was being really clever using my laser cutter to make some masks to enable perfect red bits. I scanned the decals so they were the right size. But when I removed the mask: It pulled the paint away from the bits so we are back to primer and sanding Lesson learned - do not use really sticky material for this job. Primed ready for sanding ------ again! Also been working on the inverted hump under the fairing. Just primed and looking good.

Thirsty
Painting is done finally! I've had some issues with the paints I am using and my technique where I've had to redo the tank a couple of times but I think I've got it sorted out now. Will let it dry for a day or two then give it all a good clearcoat, decals and a final clear coat. Got some light sanding to do and some overspray to remove first though. I know the colour is not right, too dark, but it's a mistake I made early on with the frame and it's too late now to change so I'm going to live with it. Looks pretty good once cleared. It's hard getting a good shot of the hump under the front of the fairing. Made it with styrene as finding plastic spoons is a bit of an issue here now.
Thirsty
Thought it was worth noting that a couple of weeks ago I removed the front discs and machined them thinner as they were fasar too thick which is evident in the earlier photos. Looks just right now.
Thirsty
Decals and clear coat today. Came out pretty good. This is the part of modelling I struggle with. I've painted the tank and cowl bit 3 times to get it right. I've painted the fairing once only thank goodness. It's still not perfect but good enough for my oldish eyes! I'm glad I chose this colour now - it may not be as "bright" as the original but I'm really liking this subdued look :). I had a go at making up some replacement brake line fittings - not too sure yet - will have a better look tomorrow.
veg
This looks great, I’ve a half complete 1/12th and a cx500 half finished. From memory the exterior paint went down about an inch on the inside then it was a Matt carbon black well it was on RC version. very very impressed you’ve done a great job.
kpnuts
That is awesome, I've always loved these big tamiya kits for the level of detail you can add (and I thought I was pretty good) but you are taking this to a whole new level
JeroenS
Well done on the paint, looks great to me! Good recovery on that slight masking setback...

My reference photos show matt black inside the fairing - doh I wasn't going to worry about it but now I know I'll have to. 12 hours ago, kpnuts said: That is awesome, I've always loved these big tamiya kits for the level of detail you can add (and I thought I was pretty good) but you are taking this to a whole new level Thankyou. This is therapy for me almost - I love doing this even though it gets a bit tedious sometimes!

Yeah that was a nightmare. Problem I have is I keep making the same mistakes over again. I think I've got it now but had to punch the information in a couple of times
Thirsty
So got more done today. Painted the fairing inner black. Mounted the fairing frame. Fitted the front caliper banjo fittings. Also made up the bracket that holds the front brake lines. Need to make one for the speedo cable as well. Got the bodywork other than the fairing mounted properly. Photo of the new thinner front rotors. Lower fairing frame mount screwed together - no glue. Bodywork fitted - fairing to come after headlight which is next step.

Thirsty
So I'm at the point in this build where I'm 95% done with only 95% left to go! It's an old saying in aircraft building where all the fiddly bits at the end seem to take forever. Today I spent about half the day making some fork air preload caps out of aluminium because I don't like the kit ones. Ended up taking two tries to get something I was happy with. It helps having a milling machine and a lathe Done and connected up. I also did a bit more on the fairing including putting blinkers/horns on, putting the fuel tap on the fuel tank, made up the front blinkers and horns wiring looms, got the mirrors together and getting the seat bolted on.
Thirsty
Made up some valve stems and fitted the bodywork with wiring for blinkers and horns. So for a teaser the bike is almost done. I have to fit the mirrors and the two screws on the side cowls then do some more weathering.

Delayar
Wow that looks fantastic. And in this case, the ckliché that you cannot tell if these are pictures of the model or the real thing apply. Cheers, Markus
