Stilwell
It is also fairly good timing that new reference material on the Ki 21 has been published recently, by Arawasi: http://www.arawasi.jp/salebook.hp/aramag/eye3.html https://www.aviationmegastore.com/arawasi-eagle-eye-series-no-3-mitsubishi-ki-21-sally--fiat-br20-cicogna-in-hinomaru-arawasi-international-9784990464721-aviation-books/product/?action=prodinfo&art=183209 https://www.aviation-bookshop.com/shop/arawasi-eagle-eye-series-no-3-mitsubishi-ki-21-sally-fiat-br-20-cicogna-in-hinomaru/ If you can afford it. drake122
Not sure if this is known or not (apologies if old info, I am not up to date on the subject), but Special Hobby is also preparing a Sally. https://www.specialhobby.net/2021/12/sh72401-ki-21-sally-172-model-v-priprave.html?m=1

It will be interesting to see how they compare. With the statement "We have been preparing Ki-21 Sally 1/72 models for a long time" did they release that news in response to the ICM announcement? They are in direct competition. See, this is the problem with Special Hobby- they are preparing releases for ages, and they end up getting beaten by other companies (see Modelsvit and Mirage IIIs)...
Homebee
Special Hobyy has also announced 1/72nd Mitsubishi Ki-21 "Sally" kits. A project that has nothing to do with the ICM one. See posts herebelow. Source: https://www.specialhobby.net/2021/12/sh72401-ki-21-sally-172-model-v-priprave.html New dedicated thread for SH "Sally" is here: link V.P. Mr. Homebe, that is incorrect according to the SH representative I asked on modelforum. SH seem to be working on this project for a while now and it is completely separate from the ICM effort. https://www.modelforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=77712&start=7290 1

This was no partnership. Special Hobby simply bought the plastic parts for the 1/32 AH-1 and added their own parts to them. Not for the first time, anyway. If it was a partnership, Special Hobby would not mention buying the model or its shortcomings, meanwhile on their Czech blog they write about it directly: https://www.specialhobby.net/2021/09/sh32082-ah-1g-cobra-early-tails-over.html Quote Stavebnice modelu AH-1G Cobra 1/32 od ICM je povedená a detailní. Ta bude barevná i když rendery ukazují lepty v barvě materiálu. The AH-1G Cobra 1/32 kit by ICM is very well detailed. We decided to buy this kit and offer it in Hi-Tech version. Our rebox for the SH32082 AH-1G Cobra 'Early Tails over Vietnam' Hi-Tech Kit 1/32 offers a large number of resin parts that surpass the plastic parts in quality, if not directly correcting their flaws. Additional details to enhance the model can be found in the PE sheet. This will be coloured although the renderings show the etchings in the colour of the material. They would also have access to the 3D design, so they could make 3D printed parts based on the ICM model, not based on scaling up their own design from 1/48 to 1/32. And speaking of the 1/48 scale model - if it was a partnership, they wouldn't be writing about it as their own novelty: https://www.specialhobby.net/2021/05/sh48202-ah-1gq-cobra-prvni-nahled.html Quote Jednou z velkých novinek naší firmy pro letošní rok, myšleno významem, ne velikostí modelu, bude čtvrtkový model AH-1G/Q Cobra. One of our company's big releases for this year, meaning the importance, not the size of the model, will be 1/48 kit of AH-1G/Q Cobra. Just because two companies release a model of the same aircraft at the same time does not mean it is a collaboration. 2

The technology changed to 3D CAD preparation of forms but this is a good starting point. Many of us will have a bit difficult choice. To wait for SH which is expected more or less soon or to buy ICM one which is already appearing especially that when ICM kit will not sell well the motivation to complete project by SH can vanish... I am very interesting if any of them are planning also to release the transport variant of this machine , the Ki 57 Topsy (or L4M1 in IJN)?
