Thanks Mark,

Took a while but I got there. :D

Cheers,

Well worth the effort - I'm just head-scratching wondering where to begin on mine! This is great inspiration though,

Thanks Roger.

I know the feeling, I spent ages pulling the box out, looking at the destructions, trying to decide where to start.

Eventually just went with the stages in the booklet whilst trying to look ahead to see what I could get ready for painting in the same colour.

Great efforts Alistair,  glad your hard work has paid off .

I have gone over to using fineline tape for scribing, it's a great vinyl tape tgat is available in various thicknesses and does bend round things well.  Brilliant stuff. I used it to mask for pinstripes etc on my car.

Great work on this great lady fella.

Thanks Chris,

I'll have a look for some fineline.

Edit: I can pick some up from Halfords, so I'll give that a try.

It's wonderful stuff and use it most of the time now for scribing.

Another minor update.

Scribing done and some Mr. Surfacer applied on bits I've made mistakes with.

This was using a guide tape as well. . Scribing is not my forte and needs more practice.

The holes for the outboard floats were drilled and the old ones filled.

Looking at that first picture of the wing one spot needs a bit more.

I would have done a tad more but I was out tonight seeing the new Nicholas Cage Film and if anyone fancies it you should go.

It is fantastic fun.

Thanks for looking,

Rescribing is not my forte either Alistair,  great work though fella.  Glad you enjoyed the film.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

More practice needed.

I'll see how it looks under paint.

Alistair,

Looking good - scribing is very much an acquired skill (I hasten to add that I have not acquired it!). Coming along nicely,

The wings were glued on one at a time. The port last night and the starboard this morning.

That's getting left to set properly then I'll deal with the trailing edge wing root and start shimming and filling the large gaps.:fight:

This was the best fit I could get without the wings drooping badly, so, @Dunny be aware.

Of course it could all be due to operator error on my part.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair,

Big step forward, and gaps don't look tooo bad? I shall proceed with caution,

I always spray the fuselage halves with primer first; before I build anything; especially if there are windows to be fitted. I also spray the wing halves and tail pieces. Its looking good!👍 looking forward to seeing this when complete!

Cheers Roger,

The gaps aren't too bad but it's the trailing edge that's going to need some hefty persuasion to line up.

Thanks so much,

The only clear part I'll be putting is the astrodome all the rest will be Clearfix Krystal Klear or similar.

The wings have been worked on.

The join areas feel pretty level now. Some more filling/sanding and I'll get on with the tail planes.

Not much to report today.

I've been struggling with a Migraine but got something done.

2nd round of filler on the wing roots, some on the tail pieces and Mr. Dissolved putty on the wing and tail edges.

I'll get these sanded back tomorrow and see how things look.

Alistair,

Crikey -  I think I'd better put in a putty order! Coming along nicely though,

Thanks Roger,

It's not as bad as it looks.

The first batch was just to get the wing roots nicely levelled out, this lot to blend everything in.

There were some gaps in the tail but I may have been my usual heavy-handed self with the putty.

Of course, it could and probably is down to poor building on my part. .

That thing eats putty! You seem to be on the case though.

I read somewhere that when the Airfix Sunderland was first pressed in 1958, the parts fitted together so well that they didn't need to tweak the moulds before production. The kit still fits together well from modern pressings.

Adrian

Thanks Adrian,

I feel most of the extra work has been caused by me but I'm getting there.

Hearing that I'm wishing I'd just got an old Airfix one.

Looks very large and impressive Alistair, the model that is 😉 .  I did the Airfix kit many years ago and was impressed with it , that may be the one I go for if I do decide to get one!!!

Good luck with the sanding  filling and sanding  Alistair and I hope your migraine has gone now.

Thanks Chris,

The migraine is just grumbling in the background meaning I can get on with normal stuff.

There has been some sanding done.

I have found a slight issue.

6VwXIf7.jpg

The clear Astrodome piece is massively oversize for the hole in the kit and checking pictures of the real thing and builds in AMW and SAM it should be flush with the fuselage.

So, it's been tacked on with PVA and when that dries I'll mark round it and then widen the hole and try to get a nice fit.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair
