I am following this build with great interesting.

One question about the underwing serials. When were these introduced on the Sunderland? I have thought summer 1945, but I could be wrong.

Nils

Thanks very much.

I'm ashamed to say I don't have a clue. Sorry.

Cheers,

Alistair

It was opened.

And most importantly,

Time to get back on track or it will be once I get the next four night shifts out of the way starting tomorrow.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

What a haul! Good luck with the repairs, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I too couldn't resist the beautiful silliness of the bugatti, and have thoroughly enjoyed my mishaps through the world of SH seafire.

Oooooo a lovely care package Alistair,  some cracking kits there, the Bugatti racer is gorgeous.

Glad you got the Sunderland decals too fella.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I just couldn't resist the Bugatti.

The others have been on my radar for a wee while.

It is very tempting Adrian , I am struggling to resist, but have to as I am already going to be in trouble after ordering a Sword Avenger/Tarpon after Alistair's related thread!!! Unless it gets here when SWMBO is out when it arrives!!!

Thanks Adrian,

I've had a look through the box and fondled.

The Bugatti looks nicely done but it's even smaller than I imagined.

…and it’s only 12 quid or so. Mind you, for three times the price, they also sell the Planet Models resin version where the fuselage, wings and tail are all cast in one piece - that would save an awful lot of filling and sanding…

But we digress - let’s hope you get the Sunderland back on track!

The final piece of the jigsaw arrived today.

This is just a backup in case the canopy requires some polishing.

There was some other stuff in the parcel just to make the postage worthwhile you understand.

The first parts are all @Dunny's fault.

These last two are for other future projects.

No excuses now I will need to get on with it.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice haul there Alistair,  the Chippie is a lovely kit,  as is the Gladiator,  from what I've seen as yet to start mine, the Navy Hurricane is a little beauty too, done that one myself and looks great in the box top scheme.

Looking forward to all of these.

Urg 2 camo schemes on one aircraft! You guys aren't lazy enough! I got one too with the wooly and entirely unresearched hope of adding a hook and spools, but really because everyone is going on about arma and I wanted to be cool!

All that gladiator gubbins looks... intimidating.

Rescribing is not my forte either Alistair,  great work though fella.  Glad you enjoyed the film.

Chris

Well, really very fine work .

In this particular 1:72 kit, I would dare to ask if is it really essential to scribe panel lines on surfaces.

Except those  big gaps needed to represent flying surfaces.

Several years ago I red in SAM Magazine that even in some 1:48 scale aircraft  the best way to "make panel lines" was to paint different panels some little different from each others.

I just fancied the scheme. If it works cool if not it's another Arma Hurricane and what's not to like there. :D

Dark earth/dark green and TSS?? Shut up and take my money!

I do like a red/white/grey chippie too…

And we all want to see your Sunderland back on track…

Regards,

Adrian

Thanks Adrian,

I'll get it moving soon I promise.

I had my first flight in a Red,Grey and White Chippie and also my first solo so I will be heading that way.

Probably the one I was in at Leeming during a Summer Camp.

What Adrian said! Happy to cop the blame for that little haul!

You are,of course, entirely to blame and it was nothing to do with me at all. ;)

Thanks so much,

You are probably right about the panel lines but it was the easiest way of tidying up after all the filling and sanding, for me anyway.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is a parental guidance warning. The following pictures may be distressing for younger modellers.

Finally got the oomph and nerve up to make a start.

Thinners liberally rubbed over the entire surface.

It's not pretty and you'll notice that the ColourCoats appears to be unaffected by the thinners.

That stuff is bulletproof when cured. I knew I liked it for a reason.

This will be left overnight and then I'll clean up the worst of the mess, then I can start the sanding to feather everything in.

It's a start and I'm glad I've got on with it at long last.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair
