The worst of it is behind you now.  Onwards!

Thanks Mark,

Once I get it all tidied up and fix the ghost seam that has appeared it's back to the fun bit.

Alistair

Thanks Roger,

I'm glad to be back at it now that I've started.

It'll get finished now and I was fed up with it staring at me from the corner of the room. :D

It's a terrible thing to happen, but as the guys here have said, it is recoverable. Onwards and upward :)

You will be in Berlin in no time.

It's entirely my own fault and the only thing I've lost is some time.

Glad you have taken this brave step Alistair,  the only way is up now, looking forward to seeing this develope now, again 😉

Great job.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I've got to give it a try as I have invested far too much time in this one to walk away.

In any case it will give me the opportunity to fix some bits that I wasn't completely happy with. :D

Just catching up, and this is practically an exemplary saga illustrating perseverance at its finest! Wow. Not an a/c I find especially compelling, but in this case it will be inspirational!

Thanks very much.

It's been a long slog so far but I'm hoping it will be worth it in the end.

Oh my god.... I feel with you... kudos for restarting the paintjob..

Thanks very much.

I'm much too stubborn to give in at this stage when I've taken so long to get here. :D

All the dust and muck was cleaned off this morning and while cooking dinner I sanded everything back to feather it all in.

It feels nicely smooth but only paint will tell.

Sprue goo was applied over the seam that had appeared.

That will be sanded back once it's completely dry.

Tomorrow I'll polish up the astrodome and if I can manage unmask the canopy and see what requires to be done there.

The good news is I'm seeing a way forward now and know it can be saved.

Thanks for looking,

Hi Alistair,

Good to see you reworking your model

If you can't save the Astrodome, you can replace it with a Porthole

transparency, as the Sunderland flew with both in place as required (needed)

Astrodome in storage (had a Muslin type bag to store it in)

The Upper hatch has/had 6 bolts that could be undone while the Upper hatch was

hanging down in the flight deck, so it was relatively easy to swap over each.

Hope this might be of help?

Regards

Alan

Alistair,

Now that is a sight to see! As I've found with the Boston it's amazing the clarity that a second go around brings,

Thanks very much for that Alan.

It's good to know I have an option if the worst happens.

This one is epic, and the result will be too, if fo no other reason than the journey to get there.

Thanks Mark,

It is a bit of a trek isn't it. :D

Thanks Roger,

Yes because I've already masked and painted before I know exactly where to go with it and It gives me the chance to sort the bits I wasn't 100% happy with.

Looking good Alistair,  some epic sanding there. Looking forward to the paint.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

It took a wee while but if it means smooth paint the second time around then I'm OK with that.

After I got back from work this evening I polished out the astrodome and then gave it a coat of clear.

The sprue goo is still a little soft so got on with unmasking the canopy to see if there was any lasting damage there.

There's a bit of dust about but I was expecting that with the amount of sanding I've done other than that no damage.

I am so relieved about that and can now see that this can be saved, dusty but saved.

I'll remask the canopy and astrodome tomorrow, get the goo sanded back and rescribed and we should be good to go for paint.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

After another light sanding session on the parts that didn't feel 100% smooth I got on with the masking.

I was going to do this last night after work but we went off to see Bullet Train which, if anyone fancies it, is a hoot.

If you think of a Tarantino movie scripted by Snatch era Guy Ritchie then you'll get the idea.

It was time for some paint.

Not much paint so far but once it's dry there will be a lot of primer.

Used some to check on the errant seam.

That looks ok now.

More later,

Cheers,

Alistair
