72modeler
Yowzah! Can't wait to see the RFI's on this one! For my two fellow Bent-Wing Buddies! @corsaircorp @Corsairfoxfouruncle Love the salmon primer! Scooby
I hope they don’t leave the main wheel-wells in salmon and stick to an authentic scheme. The only area that may have had visible salmon primer is the tail wheel area on the early birdcages. Every recovered Corsair with salmon primer had an overcoat of the underside camo over the salmon. I think the Pensacola restoration group is going the route of leaving the main wheel well in primer, despite that aircraft having chipped paint overtop the primer.
Phoenix44
Is it really fair to call it a "restoration"? So much will be brand new.
fishplanebeer
An awesome restoration and can't wait to see it finally completed although I have to agree about it being considered a 'restored' airframe when so much is brand new. That said it's no different in this respect to almost all of the 'restored' Spits that have emerged in recent years that have been based upon excavations etc. of crashed aircraft and where practically nothing of the original is able to be incorporated. However at the end of the day it's another wonderful example of an iconic aircraft that future generations will be able to see and hear instead of just looking at 'dead' examples in museums so it definitely has my vote, even if the owners may not get all the panting details quite right. Regards Colin.

As wonderful as it is to be getting these incredible aircraft, there has to be a term that describes what is basically manufacturing a new aircraft around a data plate. The beautiful 'reman' Fw-200 I recently saw on the 'net is a good example! If the money is there, with the current technology, almost anything can be replicated. Did any of us ever dream in a thousand years there would be so many Spitfires and Hurricanes flying in the same place at the same time? corsaircorp
Thanks Bro' My F4U-1a is about finished, , The next one will include some salmon painted area... The next RFI'ed Corsair will be painted as per the rememberances of the one who flown her.... A new Corsair in the air is still one of the best new ever..... Wait... I must finish my XF-4U first, And then a Marine Corsair in the Solomons.... So many Corsairs to do.... CC

"George Washington's Axe" is the one I've heard. As the story goes, a man was offered George Washington's axe for sale. The seller confessed "It's had five handles and I replaced the head once, but that right there is George Washington's axe!" 1

Hadn't heard that but in the UK it's Triggers Broom - had my broom for 20 years. Only ever had 17 new handles and 14 new heads.
