The mixture of mulled wine and single malt has addled my brain enough for me to attempt this little fella. It's from the Dual Combo boxing, so not sure which markings I'll go for yet, and I expect most of the etch will stay in the box. There is rigging, but it's minimal. Phew 🤪.

p.s. this boxing does NOT come with mince pies, (or single malt unfortunately.)

May one enquire to your current single malt of choice sir ?

I'm plumping for the Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold this Christmas - best served from the freezer I find. Not my usual, but great value at £25 a bottle. 😀 (and you can't drink Lagavulin all the time can you?)

Just familiarising myself with the instructions, and I reckon it'll be "The Great Escape" option for me - just hope I don't end up in the cooler....🤔

Looking forward to seeing this. Will you be attempting the rigging before or after the single malt?

A bit of both I reckon - I wonder how obvious the difference would be?

Alternatively I might save it as a reward for afterwards - I may need it. 🧐

We are off - taking advantage of still being up, and trying to fit in what building I can, whenever I can this weekend.

It'll be the 'Great Escape Option', fitting around cooking, pressies, walking the whippet, family visits, and so on.

Clock on the camera is still on summer time at the moment... 😒

Not tried this approach before, but the sprues have had a coat of Halfords' primer whilst still on the sprues. Might get up early to see if we can get some of the innards coated up if the primer has gone on ok. 🙏

Session time = 2 minutes, Total time= 2 minutes

I think we can say that two minutes will not count towards your total time.  You've only done a bit of priming.

Until I saw the pictures

Great stuff mate

Cheers - I survived the family yesterday, and just bracing myself for a full day at the bench, hopefully get some pics up once we get started.

Unfortunately had a big plate of leftovers for lunch, had a lie down to read 'Japanese Destroyer Captain' (pressie from no. 1 son), and promptly fell asleep. Not the book's fault, it is very good, I hasten to add.

Anyway, got started, and started fettling. It's a tiny thing, nicely moulded, and I can see a bit of filling will be needed for the fuselage, but that should be it.

Suitable music for the occasion, and another pressie for me to drink. I'll be back one the whippet is walked.

Got some assembly done, rigging points drilled out, cockpit done, and a bit of paint on the engine pieces.

Also had the pleasure of listening to a bit of Jethro Tull and Rush - lovely stuff.

Broke one of the rigging attachment points on the rudder, so repair work underway.

Had to come downstairs for a cup of cider vinegar tea, as my elbow is giving me a bit of gip - too much hooch over the past week I reckon.

I've plumped for this version - it's got the least decals, but the cowl has to be cut down underneath, so a bit of a trade off.

A couple pics of last night's final session - decals cut out for a Czech version, overall silver.

A couple more bits off the sprue and tidied up, and some filler on the fuselage - I didn't take enough time to line everything up really - my own fault. 😐

Teddy's out the pram - AK's filler doesn't suit the way I work. 😜 Walked away from it and took a deep breath. The photos don't show it, but this stuff is too crumbly for my liking - superglue will be in action shortly - tea and toast will help as always. 🤓

A bit more primer on to highlight any issues - doesn't look too bad. Little bits like the engine progressing as well.

Green Day blasting out to help me on the way.

Another session done - away from the mancave for a spot of red - well there was half a bottle left from Christmas Day guv'nor, what was I supposed to do with it?

The cider vinegar has sorted the elbow out, so might as well give it a proper test.

Everything off the sprues and tidied up, next stage some Humbrol 11 to go on the smaller bits to give some differentiation when everything gets sprayed later - (hopefully.) Alclad being warmed and agitated as we speak.

Daughter no. 2 & bf coming around for supper, so trying to get as much done as possible in the next hour.

Session time = 45 minutes, Total time = 8 hours 33 minutes

I am very impressed with the intention to rig it, I can't rig anything.

At the moment it's only an intention, not really serious, but don't tell @JOCKNEY or he'll hunt me down. Them Chingford wallahs can be quite brutal. 😀

A bit more progress - letting the whole thing settle down before checking it out, and then giving it a coat of silver.

Then it can dry overnight.

Time for bed - two coats of Alclad white aluminium covering everything, and whilst it does dry pretty quickly, leaving it a few hours won't hurt.

Decals next. 😁

Silver doesn't look too bad, a bit ropey in places - but ok for a Blitzenbuild I think. Decals now on, so I'll be letting 'em dry before progressing.

A bit more done - carpet monster ate one of the tail struts, so a bit of flower-arranging wire on each side came into play. Started the rigging 😲. The decals on the wheels aren't settling at all - they have had a dose of Mr Mark softener - if that doesn't sort it out they will be getting heavily weathered. 😁

Session time = 1 hour 16 minutes, Total time = 12 hours 37 minutes. Stopping counting the time now as this either gets finished within the 24 hours allowed or it's a fail. 😋
