Despite the infamy of the cancellation of the TSR2 I can't help thinking that the P.1121 had better development and export potential, being a tactical fighter which might have been able to compete with the mighty F4 and Mirage III, and, thus its cancellation was an even bigger blow to the UK aircraft industry. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Definitely would have been a competitor for the F4 and Mirage III but the problem with the P1121 was that it was only ever funded by Hawkers and didn't have the luxury of government money. The RAF weren't very interested in it and problems with the intended engine caused delays.
