Dunny's 2021 Yearbook

Hi All,

2021 has been a pretty good year for output, despite some notable non-finishers along the way! I started off the year with Airfix' 1:72 Lancaster B.II, finished as EQ*Z 'Z for Zombie' of 408 (Goose) Sqn RCAF, based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, July 1944:

Here's the RFI:

Next up was Tamiya's lovely 1:48 Mustang III, built as GA*Q of 112 Sqn RAF, based in Italy in 1944:

Next a more ambitious project, in Tamiya's superb 1:48 Fairey Swordfish, finished as LS276, which flew as part of 836 Sqn FAA from the Merchant Aircraft Carrier (MAC) Amastra in 1943 - a personal one this, as my grandfather served in the Merchant Navy throughout the war.:

Next up Tamiya's 1:48 Beaufighter Mk.VIF finished as V8447 'Slippery Ship II' of 89 Sqn RAF, based at Bu Amud, Egypt, 1943. This was the aircraft flown by Doug Oxby and Mervyn Shiphard, who was an Australian:

Next up was a brace of 1:48 Eduard FAA Hellcats, completed along with a long time shelf sitter, an FAA Tarpon. First up was a Hellcat Mk.I, finished as JV131 of 800 Sqn FAA, which flew from HMS Emperor during the D Day landings:

The Mk.II was completed as JX814 of 1844 Sqn FAA, which operated from HMS Indomitable off Okinawa in April 1945:

The 1:48 Hobby Boss Tarpon was completed as JZ257 of 849 Sqn FAA, which flew from HMS Victorious in January 1945:

On a bit of an FAA run, next up was a 1:48 Special Hobby Fulmar, completed as N2015 of 805 Sqn FAA, which flew from HMS Eagle in the Meditteranean in 1941:

A bit of a change next, as I completed Special Hobby's 1:48 Airspeed Oxford Mk.I as LW926 of No.1 SFTS RAAF, based at Point Cook, VIC in 1943:

Next a quick hop into 1:32, with Tamiya's superlative Spitfire Mk.IXc. This was completed as MJ586, which was flown by Pierre Clostermann of 602 (City of Glasgow) Sqn RAF, which was part of 2TAF flying from Longues sur Mer during July 1944:

For the final completion for the year (or is it?!!), I hopped back into the 1:48 comfort zone with Airfix' 1:48 Spitfire Mk.Ia. This was completed as FY*Q of 611 (West Lancashire) Sqn RAF, based at Duxford in Autumn 1939:

A late addition is Airfix' 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I (Tropical), finished as P2638 as flown by Sgt F H Dean of 274 Sqn, based at Sidi Barrani, Egypt, 1941:

I do have a Blackburn Skua on the go, so if it is finished I'll edit this to add it. By my reckoning I've completed 12 builds for the year, which isn't too bad!

I hope everybody has a restful holiday, and you get to enjoy as much benchtime as you wish. I derive enormous pleasure from this forum, and look forward to continuing to do so in 2022! Thanks to one and all, with particular thanks to the moderators for all their work.

Thanks for looking and all the best,

Roger

You've been busy! Really like your matt finish, gives a dusty look that feels realistic.

There's a lot of impressive modelling been happening at your house this year. Well done Dunny!

I like the Mustang very much, it's fascinating how those decals seem to sharpen the profile of the nose.

Thanks for the kind words GB! I've also got an Albacore in my near future - plenty of FAA action for 2022!

All the best,

That is a lovely selection of models, what a great year you had! I look forward to 2022's output!

My favourite (so difficult to choose) was the Oxford., but they were all brilliant.
