[TRUMPETER 1/72] F-106 B Delta Dart

Hi there,

The Yak-3 being nearly (99%) finished, it's time to tackle another box.

Choice is made for an 1/72 Trumpeter kit, the twin seater F-106B.

A very nice kit in my opinion.

You can have a look at what's inside the box if you click here.
I've not much books and documentation about the 106, but it doesn't really matter, as nearly everything I need is on this webpage.

Here we go!

I start with the weapon bay, that I'll left closed.

As there are four sub-assemblies inside the fuselage, better take care of the general fit of each one.

So the WB is glued to one side, and then the fuselage is closed, to be sure the bay is in the good position.

Next are the wings, not to forget the principal gear wells.

And then a quick test-fit to check everything is correct. It is!

There's  a lot of stuff to store inside the fuselage.

I start with the exhaust, painted with AK true metal

Then I add the pit AND the forward wheels wells, in that order.

The nose wheel leg has to be put in place at this stage, let's hope I'll not break it later...

The two 1/2 fuselages are glued together.

Very nice, Antoine. What markings are you going with?

PS: oops! I should have been more clever and realised the photo you posted! I recall my visit to NJ in 1981 to meet and photograph the Darts there. They made us so welcome. We also got out to the runway for some departure action :)

Then the air intakes, too.

But I should have been more careful, with more test-fit, as there is a little "stair" between the intake an the fuselage. But nothing really annoying, I can handle that.

After a long test-fit session, the wings are in place.

Looks good to my eyes...

There's nevertheless a little glitch between the intake and the wing...

I've tried hard to avoid that, but in the end, I had to give up, there was always a gap...

A little come back on some details.

There's pretty nothing on the aftermarket for this kit, but I think there's no real need, as the pit for exemple is self-sufficiant.

The seats too looks good.

Well, at least till I saw the pics, as they're mercyless!

I'll try to improve all those areas, the pics shows that some touch up here and there are possible.

One of my favorite aircraft from outside of my normal modeling interest (interwar and WWII types). If you need any detail pictures, let me know. Any excuse to visit this local Dart is a good one...

Appreciate that, thanks!

As you may have noticed, the 106 webpage is a very good source for anything about the aircraft.

So I don't really need anything at the moment, but I'm not done with the F-106, so I'll remember you offer!

No mate @Smudge, it wasn’t a build I was referring to. I visited Atlantic City in October 1981 and got a full tour of the ANG facilities, including the runway edge during flight ops. I was curious about the serial number in case it was an airframe I have a photo of :).

Hi Martin @RidgeRunner yes, I was recalling your posts in the Photograph section. The Thunderchief's and Phantom's. Did you post any Delta Darts? sorry I couldn't remember 😬

I did post some but I think I dropped them from my Flickr. I’ll take a look.
