Marklo
Another oddity from warplanes of the First World War. Designed as a fighter pre synchronising gear the idea was that the observer could stand up to wield the single Lewis gun. I think it looks wonderfully quirky so fits the collection perfectly. The Sage. First order of business some working 1/48 scale drawings. As I’m committed to getting my KUTA builds and 109s done ( hopefully) this side of Christmas I think this will be a comparatively slow build, but as 2022 is looking like I’ll be building a lot of kits for GBs I thought I’d get at least one scratch build in to the bench.
matti64
would you like me to send youa photocopy of the drawing from the SPIN kit? there might also be a cross and cockade article on the aircraft too... TEXANTOMCAT
This is superb -we have a display on the Sage Company at our Museum, Peterborough being in Northants at that time - I built a model of the factory - see here for some Sage snippets! https://www.facebook.com/SywellAviationMuseum/posts/3954237828038375 TT
Marklo
Eek, now I feel the world is watching , but then again to quote/paraphrase the great Oscar Wild 'the only thing worse then being talked about, is not being talked about' 1

Marklo
Plastic has been cut. I’ll mold the nose, cupola and spinner and maybe the turtledeck. Wings and tail will be shaped and skinned in ruled 20 thou for rub detail. Wheels will be home made resin items and I should have a suitable four blade prop in the spares box. Some woodwork next I think.
Marklo
Started on the fuselage and shaping the flying surfaces, which are now almost ready for skinning.if it looks a bit short that’s because it needs about 40mm more of nose. I’ll probably start on the woodwork later on today, Edited December 13, 2021 by Marklo
Marklo
Starting on the woodwork, these are the blanks for the spinner and the nose. After a bit of sanding the blanks are done. The upper section of the cupola. Laminated 20 thou. I’ll PVA glue some clear sheet inside it for the lower section and then PVA on some plastic strip for the frames. AdrianMF
A characteristically oddball build! It looks like the offspring of a trolley bus and a Nieuport 17. Regards, Adrian

Marklo
Spent the morning molding and now have a spinner, cowl, upper deck and cupola.
ColonelKrypton
Progressing nicely. And as Adrian noted, yet another characteristically odd ball early aeroplane. cheers, Graham
heloman1
Mark, wow great work. This looks like a very interesting build. I always like to follow someone who is willing to scratch build a project. Colin
Marklo
Nose attached, prop modified from the spares box and the spinner sanded and shaped. I think I’ll work on the wings next.
Marklo
Upper decking and the turtle deck added. Skins for the sides cut and ruled. I’ll cut out for the cupola before fitting them.
Marklo
Wings and tail skinned trimmed and diehedral set, I put a brass rod through the center section of both wings then scored the blanks so I could bend them after the skin was on. Everything is dry fitted for final adjustments. The cupola needs a bit more trimming, then it’s probably time for the interior.
Marklo
Cupola masked and trimmed, may need a bit of trimming when I fit the upper wing. Lower wing and tail stuck on. It is an odd looking aeroplane.

My initial thought when I first saw a photo of this aeroplane was that it looked somewhat like a cable car gondola with wings. cheers, Graham

Marklo
Undercarriage on. A bit more cleanup needed on the fuselage. Then I need to tackle the window frames. Edited January 3, 2022 by Marklo
