F-4E Kurnass - Yom Kippur Sledgehammer!

Recommended Posts

I'd normally think 'Phantom... meh'. I look at your Kurnass and think 'Phantom... ooooh, veeeeery nice'. To any but the highly trained eye it looks great. I'll leave counting rivets to those with nothing better to do than criticise, for regular pleasure seekers like me it looks fantastic. I'll bet it is seriously imposing in 1/32nd too.

Thanks Natter, very kind! Also, it is a very large model! Needs a big shelf.

Having recently built this same kit (USN J) I know exactly how much work has gone into this big 1/32 build. Lovely result mate and a model to be proud of.

Cheers Gary, did your upper wings fit better? Can't believe there was no mechanical joint for a kit this size πŸ€”

Hi Alan.

Β

No mate my wings were the same so it wasn't anything you did wrong. I used some plastic sprue & liquid poly to effectively weld it all together as there was quite a bit of 'flex' in that area. We desperately need an all new 2022 standard tooled kit of the F-4 in 1/32 as the big Tamiya kit is now really showing its age and limitations. If Tamiya upscaled their 1/48 B (and any others planned) that would do me and we don't (really) need all the invisible stuff and 'features' like Z-M would do.

Hi Carl,

Β

that’s eye-watering me…..such a beautiful model. Perfect as always. Your paintwork is stunning. And I agree this MRP colors are really the best brand all over . Β I experimented with the latest of AKΛ‹s. Real colors, (not too bad), but no one can beat MRP.Β
so you made a gem out of it! Β Btw….some more photographs with a nice backdrop would be so nice 😊

CheersΒ

Thanks Andy! That means a lot coming from you.

I think photography is one of my weaknesses. The light booth is generally good but for these big subjects, not so much πŸ˜”

I agree these big subjects are not easy. But I don’t think that photography is one of your weaknesses. Everything perfect, especially the field of depth is superb. But it cost a lot of time and patience to make photographs with backdrop, but I think your models are very worth to give it a chance. And at least you will be rewarded with very special and unique pictures. If you need some backdrops, please let me know!

Thanks very much Jos πŸ‘πŸ™ Santa will be bringing another 1/32 Phantom for me this year, so there'll be a Kurnass 2000 wingman coming at some point πŸ˜‰

Very nice Kurnass! While not my scale, I can appreciate the enormous work you put into it, and I like the subject. In fact, I like it so much that when I come around to build one in 1/72 (I still have to procure the kit, so waaaaay into the future) I will do exactly the same one, 201's "616" since the asymmetric and varied load make for a very interesting subject, both visually and historically. Hope you don't mind me stealing your research...

Not at all! Research is half the fun for me, glad you found the build inspiring πŸ‘

In the time you’ve built this and I now see you’re doing a Blackbird, I’ve still not sprayed my Sea Fury although the paint has got closer to the bench from the airing cupboard. It does look bloody good in those colours and you don’t see many built. Very nice indeed.

Thanks a lot Steve, it took longer than two weeks though, you owe me a beer πŸ˜‚

weird patches, wrong dihedral, misshapen rear fuselage and grossly undersized nozzles are all there.

Still looks like a Phantom to me; and a very excellently built one too!

Fantastic work!
