Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien (1/72 Tamiya)

Recommended Posts

Hello again

It's been long time since my last post and my last model - it's been 4 years! Time flies indeed.

Anyway, finally got some time during this whole pandemicmonium to do some modelling again. Here is my latest I've just finished: Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien.

Model: Tamiya 1/72

Foliage: Banana trees made of aluminium foil, wire and masking tape; static grass combined with lichen, turf and jute fibers

Barrels & crates: resin copies of some I've found on eBay using method from this post

Crew: Japanese Army Pilots & Crew from RedBox

Here are some photos:

First off- those look more like period photos you would expect to see in the Bunrindo Famous Aircraft of the World Ki-61 monograph. Secondly, that can't be the 1/72 Tamiya kit- has to be 1/48 Hasegawa or Tamiya kit, right? . Seriously, after looking at both your modeling and diorama skills, I'm considering selling off my unbuilt kits and taking up oil painting!

For some reason the images aren't showing but if I click on the image icon & click on that again it opens in a new tab & opens very impressively, nicely done indeed. 👍

I think the image thing is likely something with my 'puter. :( Obviously a chrome thing, fine in Firefox. :)

Having just finished a Hasegawa 1/72 Hien, I can truthfully say mine looks incredibly amateurish compared to yours.

The first set of phots, as someone has already pointed out, are a triumph - they just look like real photos.

De colourised into B/W I should think the subject would simply look the real deal.

Bravo, this is not only a superb build, but an inventive diorama and classy photography.

At first, I thought I was looking at actual photographs of a forward deployed Ki-61.  That`s how precise and authentic you made this entire diorama.  It`s beautiful!!!!!! :like: :clap2: :goodjob:
