no nuclear power either for the carriers, so logistics of re-fuelling must come into it and add to costs too?

You do realise that replenishment needs mean that RN is going to have to invest in fleet oilers* again, preferably from national yards?

BAe are practically chomping at the bit - and the T31/32 debate seems to swing in a good direction as well...

If you're interested in naval stuff, the Bilge Pumps podcast may be something to have a go at  - Drachinifel, Jamie from ArmouredCarriers and Dr. Clarke & frequent guests.

*CVNs are quite a different beast, and when your entire escort group still needs conventional support, there's relatively little to gain from nuc propulsion for a carrier only if you take in consideration the support network for a CVN requires infrastructure the UK needs to build/extend first. SSN's are relatively easy in that regard.

Why can't news channels get their reporters to stop talking like they've just left an amatuer dramatic club, with the wheather  as it is in the uk if you want to show cars struggling in ice don't just show RWD Beemer's and Astons muppets...

Or best of all Milngavie?

or Donaghadee

Why did BBC radio have a reporter at some sea-side place telling us how windy it was, how big the waves were and. . . . . telling us that the authorities had warned people not to go to the coast to see how big the waves were?

RWD is fun on ice and snow. I used to do handbrake flick-turns on roundabouts back when I were a youngun :D

Did the reporter have a good way with words to properly convey the experience so you don't have to go out for yourself? :P If so, well done.

No, his message was so poor in quality that only about 1 in 10 words could be understood. The home-base news reporter had to repeat some of it so it could be understood

RWD works well in the rain as well but i just wish for once news channels would put something on instead of the most difficult vehicles to drive on ice/snow and another why is people keep asking the news channels why they send their reporters out into storms to report when everyone else is asked to stay at home...Answer: Because it's what they are PAID to do...

True, but we have Chat threads and Help sections for those.  This thread was started to encourage those who want to ask those questions that aren't interested in any response.  When answers are provided, they tend to be serious and tend to dilute the fun factor.

Do they know what Bo'ness full name is?? 😉😂

John

Or yet Arbroath?

What had been Stirling & Clackmannan Police inherited Bo'ness when it became Central Scotland Police upon regionalisation in May 1975 which was a real culture shock on both sides.

I know exactly what you're saying Mike, and as the originator of this thread, you know what you wanted it to be about. Questions such as "why does my wife spend half of her day reading news stories on the internet?" It's rhetorical, as there is no sensible answer to it. But people will try and answer these questions, so with that in mind, if you're OK with it, I'll start a new thread and call it "Why? Mk.2."

That's not big or clever....  I wish I'd known that at the time, as I did exactly the same!

Why not?

In my case it was because I got said manoeuvrer very badly wrong, bounced off the front of another car and came to rest in a ditch after punching through a chevron sign and a farmer's hedge.  The folly of youth, eh?  I thought I was invincible....

Know that feeling :P At least I hadn't disengaged /dev/brain totally and only pulled stunts like that when there's no risk to others or property.
The tree still stands as a reminder - and I consider myself lucky to have just a couple of scars to show for it.

Decided to do an advanced vehicle handling course after that which literally saved my neck 10 years ago.
