I like this.  I am thinking of doing another  for the FAA gb. As for the stencilling, go for it! Put them all on. I did with my first one and yes, it did take time and patience but it paid off in the end is satisfying.

Looking good.

Kit design has certainly come a long way since “Cement left (7) and right (9) fuselage halves together, trapping cockpit and arrester hook between them”.

I hope all those pieces fit together well!

Regards,

Adrian

Thanks Adrian,

Things certainly are a little more involved these days.

The dry fits I've done so far have been good.

Some clamping will be required but as we all know it could all end up very differently with glue involved.

Cheers,

Alistair

I have found that the one I am doing hasn't got many stencils on her but when I get round to the FAA version they will all be there. :D

Great job on the pit Alistair, looks good as does the dry fit too.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

The cockpit decals are a little bland but once it's all put together I'm hoping not much will be seen.

The fit is looking good at the moment but once glue get involved it could all change.

Happy with it so far though.

Cheers,

Alistair

While I had the airbrush out I sprayed some Nato black.

Some Xtreme Metals Aluminium and Jet Exhaust.

Then some glue was applied.

If I can I'll get the cockpit and fuselage together later.

Thanks for looking,

Now the glue on the intake trunking is set, take the locating pins off on the lower seams. Then remove those boxes, which serve no purpose, on the inner face of the lower wing piece. They have a nasty habit of fouling each other and causing a fit problem.

Thanks very much for that.

Glue and clamps have been applied.

That will be left overnight to set properly.

The Eagle-eyed amongst you will note that I forgot to put the tail plane inserts in.

I was able to manoeuvre them in through the open bits.

You lucky, lucky ...........

Thanks for looking.

More clampage on the spine.

I had to glue one side at a time on this.

While that was setting I put together the underside.

Then the clamps came off. A little bit of work required on the towards the rear of the spine but noting major.

Swift progress on this one Alistair 👍 The pit looks good inside the fuselage.

Cheers Greg

Thanks Greg,

It's all about to slow down as I'm at work tomorrow for four earlies and the dry fit of the underside doesn't bode well.

It' going to need careful positioning and gluing in stages to get a reasonable fit.

Clamps will be in operation.

Very good progress, especially with the intakes. I had a slight alignment problem with mine, probably of my own doing. Look forward to the fitting of the wings.

Thanks very much.

It certainly is a much trickier build than I imagined it was going to be.

Cheers,

Alistair

Hi Ali, just found your build, I haven't seen the kit yet as we don't have an LMS. I'm almost finished with the old Fujimi kit in FAA markings. I might have to indulge in one.

You should go for it if you can find one.

It requires a bit of care with the fit but it's a fun build so far.

There has been more clamperage, filling and sanding.

Glue has been applied to various sundry part and we now have something that looks vaguely Phantom shaped.

That'll be left to settle for a bit and then worked on tomorrow.
