Indeed, it does look more like a Phantom! Coming along nicely.

Thanks very much.

It's sort of getting there. I'll be a bit happier when I get some paint on to see how it really looks.

Looking good Alistair great work fella

Chris

Thanks Chris.

It's at that ratty stage just now with filler and sanding residue everywhere that makes me think Hmmmmm.

We'll see going forward.

Alistair

I love your clamps. Where can I get some?

I got them here.

https://www.rebell.com/clamps-for-modelling-2-st.html

They send you an paypal invoice when they've figured out the postage but they arrived from Sweden 3 days after that.

Brilliant clamps and very versatile.

I found out about them through Phoenix Aviation Modelling Magazine. So, a big thanks to David Francis @WarthogMKL and his team for that.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Alistair

Hi Alastair,

I am enjoying watching your progress with this kit, which is one I have been tempted by.

Keep up the good work 👍

Thanks Greg,

I'm not sure that stumbling from one clamping session to the next is progress but it's what I do. :D

Cheers,

Alistair

I like this.  I am thinking of doing another  for the FAA gb. As for the stencilling, go for it! Put them all on. I did with my first one and yes, it did take time and patience but it paid off in the end is satisfying.

Paul, an FAA Phantom GB would be great. Quite how I'm going to source one down at the bottom of Africa is another problem!

Ali, thanks. A kit that doesn't require some input from the builder, probably isn't worth building. However another Phantom is another mission.

In my FAA career, I only worked on Gannet Mk5's and Wessex HU Mk5's. I was a sproggy air  mechanic on the Gannets. The Junglie Wessex (845 NAS) was a delight to work on...

I would have loved to have worked on the Phantom but it wasn't too be. A mate of mine took the Phantoms to RAF Leucars to teach the crabs how to use them!

I've not had much time today again.

Some other Phantmony bits were glued on.

The resin insert for the exhausts were glued in.

Some filler was applied and the canopy was masked and glued.

Some light filling required but getting closer to a coat of primer now.

Thanks for looking,

The sharp-eyed amongst you will have noticed that the top of the fin appears to be missing.

I dropped her yesterday and didn't notice that it ha broken off.

I just happened to spot a bit of plastic wedged under the kick plate in the kitchen, picked it up and thought "What does this belong to?"

Then it hit me so it has been glued back on and will be checked tomorrow to see if any work requires to be done.

Thanks to all who were too polite to mention the glaring error. :D

On the bright side, you've now had your mandatory stuff-up for this build and can enjoy the rest of the ride!

Fine looking F4.

Looking very Phantom like now Alistair   what a bit of luck finding the missing tail section  before the hoover monster ate it!!!

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris,

Just blending the front of the canopy in just now whilst waiting for some PPP to dry a bit.

Should get some primer on her later and we'll see how that looks.

Ah but I might start a new trend of making a lot of mistakes. Don't want to be predictable. :D

I decided it was time for some paint.

Just to check the seams and such, you understand.

A bit or work needed on the port wing root leading edge, otherwise I'm happy.

A couple of passes with ColourCoats Night Bomber Black highly thinned.

Trying to break up the black a bit so it's not too monotone.

Still needs one or two more.

More later when the paint has dried a bit.

Thanks for looking,

One more thin coat done and that'll do for me.

Next I'm going to try something I've never done before.

I'm going to spray various areas with highly, highly thinned layers of Rubber Black, Nato Black and Dark Blue in an attempt to vary things a bit more.

If it all goes horribly wrong I can strip back and paint again.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair
