This is very tempting, It would be my first Meng kit. Normally not much of an F-18 fan, however we get a lot of noise here from NAS Whidbey. When the EA-18G Growler’s take off on 07, we hear the rumbling of the afterburners big time, some people think it’s an earth tremor! NAS Whidbey is about 45km from here. They also fly over, albeit at altitude. I do miss the Prowler, not as noisy but looked nice flying in pairs.

The crew figures look nice, the JHMCS is a nice option for the helmet. For me, seated crew negate the addition of the remove before flight tags and pins. From experience, USN didn’t shut down until you put all the pins in and I don’t fancy hanging all the tags. Lots of colourful CAG birds to do. 🤔

Growler over the War Zone

MENG has prepared three different paint schemes for aircraft of different units in the LS-014 1/48 Boeing EA-18G Growler Electronic Attack Aircraft kit.

The paint scheme A is for the aircraft piloted by CAPT Jeff Craig and weapon systems officer CAPT Tom Slais of VAQ-132 "Scorpions" Electronic Attack Squadron during Operation Odyssey Dawn in 2011. This is the first that the EA-18G was used in combat. The perfect performance of the Growlers gave the NATO coalition forces an advantage and guaranteed the rapid deployment of coalition air strikes during the operation. During Operation Odyssey Dawn, no coalition aircraft was shot down by Libyan fighters or air defense fire.

The paint scheme B is the aircraft piloted by LCDR James Thompson and weapon systems officer CDR Robert Holmes of VAQ-132 "Scorpions" Electronic Attack Squadron in Misawa Air Base in 2014. VAQ-132 is the second EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft squadron deployed to Japan.

The paint scheme C is for aircraft piloted by CDR W.D. Fraser and weapon systems officer CDR L.W. Callaway of VAQ-139 "Cougars" Electronic Attack Squadron aboard USS Carl Vinson in 2014.

That’s all for the paint schemes included in the LS-014 Boeing EA-18G Growler Electronic Attack Aircraft kit. We will show the details and other highlights of this kit in our future updates.

I am kind of surprised they appear to have not included at least one decal set for a RAAF option:

For a RAAF one, you can go Platz/Italeri, but... That's not the same kit quality level...

Jeff,

I am on the Washington side of Whidbey island, so I see them fly over Skagit Valley as they come in to land. Pretty awesome sight!
