antonowski Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Hi all, For my first post I'd like to share my recently built Messerschmitt BF109e in 1/48 scale. Being my 2nd WW2 fighter (I've also recently built a 1/72 Spitfire Mk1a), I've still got a fair amount to learn about the process. Had a lot of fun building this however, and I am in the process of creating a diorama to surround it so some details are still absent such as the rigging and red markings behind the wings and horizontal stabilisers. Comments always welcome. Hope you enjoy the pictures! Cheers, Ant 35 1
HOUSTON Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Hello Ant. Well its good to see you come out of the jungle ( ) and show your IMPRESSIVE build. Beautiful Bf109.. Ant of Ant and Dec presenters ..just teasing you Sir.
jean Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Hi Ant, for a novice, you are producing great work! This 109 looks splendid! I have just two remarks to make: - Next time, make sure the tires are painted with mat paint. Glossy tires do look somewhat weird! - Although weathering looks good, it is unlikely that the plane of one of the top JG26 bosses would have been allowed to go so dirty during the BoB. But these are tiny remarks. Your build is superb. Congrats! JR
Harold55 Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 I really like your build! An excellent job and I like your weathering. Planes get dirty during war and there is little that can be done about it as efforts are first made to get them back into the air. It may or may not be accurate but it sure does look great! Welcome to BritModeller!
antonowski Posted November 30, 2021 Author Posted November 30, 2021 Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'll absolutely take on board (no pun intended) what you mentioned about the matte tyres @jean, it's definitely something I must have overlooked so I'll make sure that gets corrected. Also the point about the prestige of the pilot flying the plane; you're absolutely correct. In all honesty, having just gotten into the hobby properly I'm eager to try out some weathering/painting/modelling techniques so this was a nice test bed for some of those. Having said that, this is still planned to be part of a nice little diorama so I expect I'll revisit some aspects of the model to even things out once the dio is assembled. Just waiting on another Tamiya kit to arrive before I start work on that, alongside the 2 other projects I have going on at the moment! >_< Thanks again chaps, appreciate the replies! Ant
Gary Brantley Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 That is a very nice 109! Good job Ant! One detail more perhaps; the Bf-109 did have a prominent seam or joint line along both the top fuselage spine and bottom. Those don't require filling.

Do you happen to have any good reference of that at all? I've not been able to find a good enough picture online of the top of the fuselage.

Prominent was perhaps the wrong choice of adjective; visible is a better one. Here's a website that does show a good view of the belly of the beast. It is difficult to find any photos of the bottom side of the 109. https://vintageaviationecho.com/bf109e/

Thanks for sharing, I've still got an F variant in the stash so I'll be sure to put those pictures to good use. 1

I'm in the middle of my first Bf-109 model since the mid 1960s and have been doing some research of my own lately. I'd like to find a good drawing of the pilot's headrest armor on the 109E-7. 😀
