Natter
Hi All, I picked this up at a flea market today. It's the Airfix Freddy Flameout kit, which I believe only ever appeared in the 1967 catalogue. I paid a tenner for it, about what I paid for my other Hawk Weird-Oh kits, but it may be rarer than they are. Does any one out there in Britmodeller-land know any more about it? 2
alt-92
I may have seen a YT video a while back delving into that particular era. As far as I understand it, they only did a few of those 'counterculture' cartoon kit things but it turned out not to be a success in the European market. Other ones: Tollway Daddy & Ton-Up-Tony. Revell later tried to hook into the Hawk re-releases with the Old School cartooney series - the Messa-schnitzel and RIF RAF's spitsfire for example.
Natter
Wouldn't mind a Ton-Up Tony for a tenner - not much chance of that though...
Pete in Lincs
I vaguely remember seeing them in the catalogue. Not sure if I ever saw them in a shop though. I built the Hawk version some years ago and fitted Airfix Skyraider wings and lots of ordnance. I think you did well for a tenner. Can't be many out there with that box.
janneman36
Thank you for sharing, didn’t know that Airfix had this once ... I bought a hawk/Atlantis repop a few years ago. cheers, Jan
3DStewart
I had always believed that these tools originated in the US and weren't Airfix's own. The subjects always looked more America than European to me.
Ratch
532 Freddy Flameout Scale not known. Reissue of Hawk kit number 533. Available from 1967 to 1968. Not listed in 6th Edition (1968) catalogue. Airfix only issued three of these kits, the other two were Ton-Up Tony 1966 Tollway Daddy 1967
