This requires intense concentration to get each frame exactly right and you will find it tedious. This being the case, don't try and do this all in one hit, you will go wrong. Did you use sort of a jig for that? That was one of the first things that came in my mind when unboxing review popped up recently; that the intersection needs some (reads; a lot) of scribing here. In my mind I thought about parallel stripes of some masking sheet, in addition with the good old Dymo tape to scribe along. Anyway; I'm on the edge of my seat watching you enter land where none of us has laid his feet - or tentacels - upon before! 1

In my mind I thought about parallel stripes of some masking sheet, in addition with the good old Dymo tape to scribe along. Anyway; I'm on the edge of my seat watching you enter land where none of us has laid his feet - or tentacels - upon before! I marked out a line about 0.5mm forward of the join and laid my first strip of tape up to the line. I then set my dividers, use a good quality pair here, to the desired distance between frames and very carefully marked the distance off on each longeron. I then laid down another strip of tape and repeated the process until all the frames were taped up. The secret here is concentration. Should you feel your concentration begin to slip, stop, take a break and do some more later. If ever the phrase that "There are no prizes for speed in modelling" was true, it is never more apt than with this kit. Get it wrong and you will have wonky frames with all the issues of having to fill and sand them and re-scribe over filler. Hope that helps. Martian 👽 6 1
npb748r Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 I'm not sure I want to dive into the world of scribing as I know my accuracy wont be that good. Whilst watching your build with interest I'm now starting to think about different ways of achieving a similar result by cheating such as decals or painting. I'm waiting to see how noticeable these improvements are on your build as, if I'm honest, I'm not overly concerned with accuracy and if something proves too much of a faff I tend to ignore it and wipe it from my memory (the modelling equivalent of sticking ones head in sand !). I'm also wondering how to display the finished model - it lacks wheels (planes) and doesn't sit nicely on strips of wood (boats), I'm way out of my comfort zone. Really enjoying the build, thanks for sharing. 1

I do see som more challenges in this build, like the windows in the gondola. I do feel a bit guilty, as I sit here laid back watching you working out solutions for these challenges, and benefit from your experiences in my later build. But that's modelling right, and I still wait for mine. 1

I doubt as well that I will open the windows up (once it arrives - it's now scheduled for end of December), but maybe pour some clear resin in the window holes, to add some depth and reflections. Or maybe there will be some PE available, I think the gondolas yell for some PE. But I guess that's just wishful thinking... 1

Its strange that you should mention that you are going to treat your kit as a ship build because that is exactly what it feel like to me. Totally illogical I know, but I keep feeling that I am posting in the maritime section of the forums. 25 minutes ago, Chief Cohiba said: I doubt as well that I will open the windows up (once it arrives - it's now scheduled for end of December), but maybe pour some clear resin in the window holes, to add some depth and reflections. Even if someone does do some PE for the gondolas, I doubt if I will buy it as no matter how hard one tries, one will still not be able to see it as the hull of the ship will obstruct a clear line of sight. I am going to concentrate my efforts on the exterior of the gondolas. I am somewhat surprised at the waiting time for your kit as it seems to be readily available now. I waited less than six weeks for mine and that was a pre-order, coming from China. Or has Osterreichische Post started trying to compete with the UK's Parcel Farce? Martian 👽 1

First think I thought when I read about this being in 1/350 scale was; "This will look great close to the Viribus Unitis (once I start to take this challenge)." And then, it's got ship size (and in WWI a large ship that was), it's got ship scale, and, at isn't it even called "Airship"? And, at least in German, "man fährt" mit einem "Luftschiff", rather than flying in it. Yes, this has a lot of a ship. 54 minutes ago, Martian said: I am somewhat surprised at the waiting time for your kit as it seems to be readily available now. I ordered it at a local - well, German - dealer. Who already made an inbox review. So, in this case I can't really blame the Austrian Postal Services (which really shine in comparison to DPD, GHL, UPS, or the other logistic plagues that have risen to evil fame since then), but myself, that I didn't order it directly. But I'm not in a rush, there are a few builds which I can work on, in the meantime... *cough* 1

general melchett Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 (edited) Good progress and forward planning Martian, your problem solving is, as usual, up to snuff. should be an interesting project. However... Quote Lady Melchett tells me that she had to administer cold showers to him for a week to calm him down. This is quite routine, par for the course old sausage, a daily PTSD 'left-over' from the horror that was the Harrow first-year bathing cubicle experience back in the day! Talking of which... Oh dear, oh dear what have we here? I'm concerned that due to involvement on this forum (and these type of threads in particular), Tony may be rapidly sinking to the same depths plumbed by Baldrick and his revolting kin...a worrying thought. Quote I will take extra care and leave it on. That won't stop me Chief, I always pack a step ladder...just in case. Quote "man fährt" mit einem "Luftschiff", Don't be disgusting Darling... Quote We do not speak about them, since in the battle at Schnapshügel-Bierberg in 1896 Eusebia von Melchett had tea with Baron von und zu Wurst-Bammelburg. A wee and decadent bunch they are! You may not but we certainly do...every Christmas here at Melchett Towers, we re-enact that terrible event in great detail, culminating in the infamous tea drinking climax, a tawdry, not to mention expensive affair that usually results in serious injury, not to mention the odd death, of a servant or two along with members of the local peasantry asked/forced to participate. Aside from being a class footballer, old Eusébio had a lot to answer for!
