Faraway
After my last build, of a nice old Corvette, I thought I'd come back to the present day and have a go with this. Bronco Models 1/350 USS Freedom. I built another Bronco kit a while ago and I have to say it was a very enjoyable build, lovely detail and good fit all round. So, here a few of the obligatory sprue shots. A nice selection of PE, ignore the spelling mistake on the name plate. It does get corrected. Decals look nice. Two helicopters in clear plastic. And the bridge windows. And some unmanned drones The paint instructions are suggesting an overall grey with a black below the waterline. But, after a bit of wandering around the inter web thingy, I found this paint scheme. And as I'm not one for an easy life, this is what I'm going to attempt, not a clue what the colours are. So if anyone who reads this has any ideas, I'd be very grateful to hear. Sorry @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies I guess I mean you. Jon

I remembered this ship was one of the only ones illustrated on the old WEM guides as soon as I saw it above

Nice subject choice will follow along. Stay Safe beefy

Beefy. I think that’s sensible, makes a change for me. Unfortunately, he has no stock of US38, which is a shame as his colours are a joy to use, but it is a common colour so I can get the shade elsewhere. I’m trying to slow down, honest injun, but what with dull, cold, short days, I just seem to gravitate naturally to the work bench. AND I keep finding interesting ships, which I would like to build. AND I have to keep you chaps entertained. Can’t let down my public. Anyway, off to Sovereign Hobbies and spend, spend, spend. Jon

Faraway
Right then, time to start sticking and painting stuff. I've tacked the superstructure to the hull with PVA, the foredeck and flight deck will be removed, as when its painted the camo pattern goes from waterline to the top of the superstructure. So I thought it would be easier to paint it 'assembled'. Also, I don't have to mask the windows, and can stick in the blue glass after the camo is painted. If I've got the technical names wrong please correct me. Bollards ? Fairleads ? I've put the first one on wrong, the pointy bits should be on the outside. 57mm Gun The component parts of one of what I believe is a 30mm Bushmaster gun A red hull with thrusters The mast And just for fun, one of the unmanned helicopters . Blue windows.

Faraway
Didn't get much done yesterday, as this was being installed. Toasty ! And I was waiting for the paint to arrive from Colourcoats. But the wait is now over, just received these little beauties. So tomorrow, let the painting begin. Unfortunately Jamie didn't have the 5th colour 'Haze Grey' in stock, but fortunately I had this from a previous build and there is more than enough left for this build. It might not be Colourcoats accurate, but for what little is on the ship. I won't tell if you won't. Back soon, folks. Jon
Faraway
The foredeck and the flightdeck. They are different colours, honest. The verticals masked ready for the horizontals to be painted. I'm going to paint them with the same colour as the foredeck. And done Just need to now mask the horizontals in preparation to paint the verticals. This part is still in the planning stage, in other words, I'm making it up as I go. I've often painted TWO camo colours, but NOT four. I THINK I'll start with the lightest colour, Neutral 5L Light Grey, spray free hand where it should be. Then mask it to the shape I want, then spray the Haze Grey, then mask that to the shape I want, then spray the Ocean Grey and mask that to the shape I want. Which should leave the correct shapes for the Black, There........see......... simples, what could possibly go wrong ? Will it work ? If any of you can think a different way, I'll be all ears. ArnoldAmbrose
Gidday Jon, I usually paint lightest first if I can and black last, but I use the hairy stick. I don't know if that makes a difference. Good luck. Regards, Jeff.
Faraway
That's the horizontals masked. It's going to be a 'dazzling' few days. This is the first colour, the lightest of them all, once it is well dry I'll mask it, as it will be in its final shape. The next colour will be 'Haze Grey', the biggest problem I can see, being how to cut the masks. I don't think I dare cut them on the ship, so........I think I'll make up the mask shape on tracing paper taped to the ship and then transfer that shape to the mask..........that might work...........if I've got enough sheet mask. Off to hastily check my stock, if I can remember where I put it. I've never done anything like this before, but I'm encouraged with this first step. Wish me luck with the rest.🤞 Jon
