Airfix 1/24 Hurricane Mk.I

Recommended Posts

One that's been in the stash for a few years. The Airfix 1/24 Hurricane is quite an old kit but actually isn't too bad. The fit is pretty decent with the exceptions being the getting the fuselage halves together and getting the wings to fit. Nothing major then... I added a Yahu photetched instrument panel and an HGW Sutton harness. The model is finished in Hataka/ Vallejo Acrylics dark earth, dark green and sky and using Topnotch camouflage masks which worked very well. The aircraft is in the markings of P3576 GN-A as flown by Flight Lieutenant James Brindley Nicolson VC, RAF No.249 Squadron, Boscombe Down, 16th August 1940. The markings were applied using Topnotchmasks and sprayed on. It was a new technique for me and I think it worked out OK. Anyway, here it is,

That looks like an affectionately built project, glad you enjoyed it. I haven't built it but have heard it's probably the most user-friendly and best-aged of the early superkits. Looks very neat and cleanly built, well done 👍

Very nice. Got one of these in the stash. Any build tips you'd like to share?

Check the parts. I had a couple missing and two left tailplane top surfaces. The fuselage was badly warped at the nose and needed a modicum of persuasion to get the halves togtether. Getting the wings to fit to the assembled fuselage is challenging at best and a bit of material needed removing from the landing gear bay to get it all to fit. Apart from that it goes together surprisingly well.

So... an Airfix Classic! Sounds right up my alley. Cheers.

Thanks for the tips. You’ve made a fantastic looking hurricane. I’ve the 1/24 spit, 109, and hurricane (in a 109 box) in the stash.

Beautiful work! :clap2::clap2::clap2:

I had to look at this one, because I never finished mine (we're talking almost 45 years ago)!

My incomplete build went to a new owner, after I left home for University.

All through the 80's I pretty much forgot about model building.

Glad I found my way back!
